SE is a real gem properly equipped

I have to add my rave to the other reviews. Best features of my loaded SE are 5 spd, leather and Bose stereo. Can still blow the doors off anything other than exotics. The VQ sings at highway speeds -- and still gets 26+ mpg at 80mph. With 195K miles and < $3K total repairs and replacments, reliability has been superb and everything still works (almost everything - the windshield washer needs fixing). In 2008, can't find any new replacement vehicle that has equivalent blend of fun to drive, interior design, and practicality -- it doesn't really compromise in any area -- except that the 350lb. weight saving that makes other features possible sacrifices safety from the newer devices.

Most Reliable Car I have ever Owned

The nissan maxima not only has the famous VQ engine known for its reliability and power. it also rides and drives like a sports car. I am in love with my maxima because no matter if everything else is breaking down in my life I can always fall back on my maxima. I have had no problems thus far and I have 140K on mine and drive her hard every day.

good for the money!

five speed can drive pretty rough after time and you need to replace the motor mounts, but i think that's just because it's more powerful than cars for that price. That's still a very minor problem compared to others in its class and that is the main problem on my 140k mile car. If you take care of it, as usuall, it can be very reliable... Now that i think about it it's a great car.

the ultimate driving machine

The Nissan Maxima is the most enjoyable and the best driving car I've ever owned. The best performance out of this vehicle is to operate it the way it came from factory. To own one is a joy and a pleasure and it won't let you down. I've owned quite a few cars but this one 96 Maxima has been a blessing. Ya gotta get one...

1996 Maxima SE

This has been the most reliable work horse that I have ever owned. Nissan did it right back in the mid 90's. It is still a great looking, good performance(190Hp), great handling, awesome interior type car that lasts. My Maxima's interior is nicer than brand new cars like (Scion xA/xB and TC/, Honda Civic/ Accord/ and any Korean car on the planet earth. Not to mention Ford/ Chevy/ Saturn/ and most American manufactured cars. I took my Automatic Maxima once to the Drag strip and beat a Mustang GT down the 1/8th mile strip, he was very embarassed. If you change the oil and just do basic maintenance Maximas will last in excess of 300,000 miles.
