Money Well Spent

I have had my 96 Camry since 98, I love it!!! It has close to 200,000 miles on it and it keeps on going. It has survived hurricanes and a blizzard. I would recommend it to everyone!!

Imortal Car!!!

I own a 1996 Camry LE, 2.2L engine. This car has been literaly through lots of bad and back, ive done pretty much everything with it that you shouldnt do with a car yet it is still going strong. Ive driven through 3ft of water and it still runs fine, gone off roading, even slid off the road a few times but the car will never die. Worth every penny. Going to buy a Jeep soon and give the Camry some well deserved TLC. May be old, but its a car I will never part with. Been part of the family since 1997.

Very reliable

Purchased the second 1996 Camry we have owned, when it had 82,000 miles. Champaign color. Nothing flashy. But has 171,000 plus miles. Get around 25 city mpg, and around 28 highway mpg. Cold air. Slow acceleration, but dependable. Had to replace radiator and motor mounts, but, other than that, no major repairs. Drive it regularly. Intend to drive it to 250,000, and maybe sell then.

Does what it's supposed to do perfectly.

Note that the ratings I give take into consideration this car came out 12 years ago, and even then, was a simple family hauler. Car is comfortable and quiet with the right tires, even after 12 years of service, no rattles and squeaks worth talking about. Ride is good considering the age, and is even acceptable now. I have a 4 cyl., meaning 0-60 in 11 seconds. I actually drive a minivan that gets there faster. Must be encouraged to get performance, or climb up a steep hill. However, for a normal workhorse, the car is good enough to get into highways without problems. Soft suspension and large tires = roll and bounciness. Not meant to be a drivers' car, and never pretended to be. Steering is numb and lifeless. However, steering is also so soft you can do it with a pinky, and thus is easy to throw around traffic. Again, good, considering what it's supposed to be used for. Styling is clearly dated, but not as much as it seems, as this generation was the first to use the aerodynamic styling, and thus, even today, will blend well in traffic. Ages well. Interior is simple, but not spartan. Colors actually contrast, and are not bland. Overall, a comfortable place to be in. Basic amenities are included, which is basically a radio, A/C, and CC. Again, good, considering this was from 12 years ago. Large trunk, easy to access engine bay, comfortable seats and so easy to drive you can fall asleep. Good interior room overall, and the car itself is not big = easy to maneuver. Like I said, this car does what it's meant to do, to haul people around, perfectly. And cheaply. Even after all these years, the car gets 25 mpg for suburban oriented driving, and 28 mpg for freeway oriented driving. I suspect 30 is easily achievable for an all highway trip. I attained 34 mpg when I stayed slow (60-70 mph) and drafted (stay close, but not dangerously so, I was about 5 car lengths) behind anything tall I could find, trucks, buses, SUVs, etc. 137,000+ miles, regular maintenance. The only breakdown worth mentioning was a snapped timing belt, which killed the car immediately, but it was because of owner negligence (it snapped at 100k+ miles, was supposed to be replaced at 90). Be sure to get it checked every 15-30 thousand miles to ensure you don't get stranded. Purchased at 22,000 miles.

Relaible Applicance

This car is supremely reliable, but utterly boring. I have a 4-cyl LE 4-door. It does everything it's supposed to unobtrusively, but is as exciting as watching bananas ripen. It's comfortable, roomy, quiet, actually handsome, a better freeway cruiser than you'd think w/ a 4-cyl and gets great fuel economy. This is a car you recommend to a single parent. Maybe I'd like it more w/ a 6-cyl, but this car wallows in curves, needs to be flogged to get anything approaching acceleration (I have had three VW 4-cyl that were very peppy), i.e. it's a family appliance. If you have NO sporting aspirations, this is the car for you. If you want to have anything resembling driving excitement, look else ware. This is by no means a bad car; quite the contrary, it's an excellent transportation device. This car just isn't fun.

Second times a charm...

I had a Ford Taurus as my first car and soon after it was to be an old car. My taurus broke down after about three months of having it which was a major disaster to me. Since, I am a student, I did not have much money to look for another car. I finally bought my Toyota Camry and it was the best decision I have made. This car has been through a lot of accidents and only has minor blemishes to show for it. I recently just got the tires replaced and a tune up and plan to keep it for another year.

We love these so much we buy more than one!

This ids the best car deal out there. We've owned 2 SUV's, and except for 4 wheel drive capavbilities, this car takes us everywhere our SUV's did, with the same capacity, for much less gas use. An excellent family/travel car for the working class! Like the vw bug of wagons only much safer. Wish Toyota would make a Camry hybrid wagon! Chwwrs!
