Hidden luxury + reliability

Spacious, super comfortable and reliable. Fluids and regular maintenance is all it needs. Butter soft ride is definitely nice. Alot miss out on this gem since it's not very recognizable.

Excellent all around

I bought my 2000 Solara SE used from a Honda dealer in July, 2002. It had about 20,000 miles then. It's a V6, manual transmission, with the premium JBL sound, leather, and power everything. I love this car. It's been perfect. It's only needed regularly scheduled maintenance in the 8 years I've owned it. There was one time (in 2008) the check engine light went on because it needed a new Oxygen sensor. It was a relatively cheap repair and normal for a car of it's age. My car is not the convertible. I wonder if the person with the body flex issues has the convertible version. I also still have the original spark plugs. They still work perfectly. This car is a pleasure to drive. It looks great too. It has great pickup and handling, good gas milage for a V6, it's very quiet at highway speeds and handles great at high speed. The suspension is noticeably better (tighter) than my wife's 1999 Camry LE, as is the sound system and interior materials quality. Gotta love the leather bound steering wheel, shifter and seats. Today, 1-5-2010, the car is 10 years old and it still drives like it was the day I bought it. My wife just got a new (2009) Sonata with all the extras and I'm not in the least bit jealous. Sincerely, Michael

Wife' Convertible

Bought this used, 2000 SLE V6 Solara convertible for my wife as a retirement gift last summer. It was very clean and well looked after. But after owning it for a few days things started going wrong. Among these are: "Check Engine Light" on. This was read by a code reader and shows EGR issues, "Track Off" light on all the time, Power Antenna does not move. It now has 110,000km on it and if I'm correct, it will need a new timing belt soon. So to get it up to snuff, it will cost me a few bucks. I suppose this might be normal for a nine year old car. Other than that, its a nice car to drive.

Best car ever made

This 2000 Solara is the best engineered car that was ever made. Every thing about the way it is built is amazing. The bottom of the frame is rust proof tubular steel and the V-6 is mounted on several shock absorbing mounts to eliminate any virbration. This is the best car I have ever owned. It is 8 years old now and it still drives like a brand new car. The body is still tight and body paint and finish are like new. The engine and trans are leak free and still perform perfectly. This car really holds it's value well because of the great Toyota reputation for reliability.

THIS is Toyota quality?

Ok so I got a decent deal on this car, 1 year old, 25,000 miles on it, and I thought I couldn't go wrong with it because it was a Toyota....next time I'll buy an Acura. First things first, this engine is so picky that when a mechanic put in platinum plugs-- which are required-- but not TOYOTA plugs-- which is stupid-- the engine fouled up the plugs just quit working. That's a really dumb design. Also, while under waranty the airbags broke, and Toyota refused to repair them, even though the dealer said "this happens to all of the Solara's." Lastly, the body flex in this car is TERRIBLE, I can hear the body flexing when i go over speed bumps or up onto the driveway, it's so bad that the moonroof will reverse itself if you are opening or closing it and go over a speedbump or anything else that makes the body flex....that's a really bad design in my book. Lastly, I've never been treated so poorly as I have been treated at Toyota dealers, and everyone knows 1/2 of customer satisfaction with a product is the experience in purchasing that product.

Reliable, Reliable,Reliable,

I have the SLE 2000 V6 for 3 years (110K) and this car is perfect. It never sees the mechanic besides regular oil change and service.

Not Quite Up to Toyota Quality

I bought the car new and have a couple of complaints with it. The driver and passenger windows when fully up catch the trim on the exterior. The dealer could not lower the window glass any lower so I had to bend the trim up so that the doors would close properly. I am also having a transmission surge problem at low speeds that the dealer has to look into. The windshield gasket sealant had a pinhole leak which would whistle at highway speed. The dealer was able to repair the window gasket to resolve the wind whistle.
