2016/2017 Highlander is a best buy

I work for a Chicago new vehicle leasing company. As such, I have the opportunity to drive everything. Of vehicles within the mid-size SUV segment, the Highlander is my top pick. The Toyota has a smooth drive and a suspension set up to soften bumps and road cracks. Toyota is still using a standard non-CVT transmission so the acceleration is smooth and gear-find is predictable. With two years of free maintenance and safety-sense standard on 2017 models, drivers can enjoy more features with a lower total ownership cost. Lastly, Toyota (for the most part) isn't plagued with some of the reliability and manufacturer supply issues that other brands are facing, namely Honda and Infiniti. Low down time and repair visits mean more time behind the seat. This, in part, is why the Toyota Highlander is my top pick.

Happy Highlander Owner

One of the smoothest and nicest autos I have ever owned. Features so many will take me months to learn. Raves from friends. This is my second Highlander so I now own two currently.

Saved my wife's life

My wife had spinal surgery 3 weeks ago, and was given the green light to drive 3 days ago, she dropped me at work and 3 minutes later I got a call that your wife has been in an accident and the SUV flipped almost 3 times. I ran 8 blocks saw the Highlander on its 4 wheels all bruised from all its sides. Paramedics were getting her out. She sustained only a bruise on her leg a small one. All side airbags had deployed. The police later came to visit at the ER and was amazed how she looked and how the car looked. He praised the vehicle, everyone at work wanted to know what SUV I had. Highlander is a saver! I wish I could post pictures here to show how severe it was. I bought it for its safety rating hoping will never have to deal with it but unfortunately did and fortunately it was the right choice!

Great SUV

I traded my 2014 toyota venze limited to the 2016 xle highlander. This SUV is excellent in most aspect. Ride is smooth and you can barely hear the noise of the engine and tires. Exterior and interior styling is superb. It drives like a small car. The only problem is the "eco" thing toyota added. Unlike my previous venza, it makes the highlander slower and there's no option to turn it off like the honda. Also, the heated seats are not warm enough in cold winter. Great vehicle, but pricey.

Highlander le plus

We just traded our other suv American made starts with a B in so We tend to compare with that. The comfort of the B which had leather seats was the most comfortable ride we have ever had. The highlander is a firmer ride but good and actually handles our curvy roads here better. The seats are comfortable enough. We hate those seats they have in most cars that turn up on the sides, this is better than that. The dependability and style is what we like. The upgraded pearl white with ash interior is gorgeous. The car is very quiet on the road with the passing cars or motorcycles. It has plenty of extras for us, but if you like more gadgets go for the XLE or higher with the leather seats and more extras. I love the automatic lifting back hatch. It has a nice backup screen with features...I do wish it had a back up beeper as well but they don't seem to make them that way anymore. It can have AC in both back and front areas which is nice for your guests. There is plenty of room for us, we are both 6 foot + tall...and fit fine with lots of head room and leg room....even in the back seat. The steering wheel is telescopic too with buttons on it for controlling many features. We are very happy with our choice so far.

Great SUV,but.

Purchased 2016 demo four weeks ago. Have only two negatives: 1. Hard armrest in the front. 2. With 18 in rims car is loosing its dignity on potholes. Everyting else is sweet.

Best overall SUV I've owned

Great SUV but a little pricey. Is a good towing vehicle with room for storing equipment behind second row seats. Good power from 3.5 L V6 and getting 21 mpg, combine, driving and pulling 17 ft bass boat.
