We bought a used 2019 a month ago.
We bought a used 2019 a month ago. I wasn't aware of these. As I researched a replacement for my wife's GMC Terrain, I learned about all of the bad CVT transmissions and oil burning engines in that class. Happened on a used Alltrack for sale at a dealer and as I researched the dsg transmission and looked up reviews - I was pretty excited by what I read. We have taken in on one 6-hour trip through the mountains and several 3-hour family visits. I love driving it. Probably my favorite car I have driven other than my old 2000 Volvo S70. It seems to be very well built. It is insanely quiet on the road and it has great acceleration. We travel with two kids and two dogs and it zips right up mountain passes, rarely cracking 3k rpm. I wish we had about 2 more inches in the trunk for our kennel, but it is a large space. I am anxious to try the AWD in some Montana snow this winter. Sadly its my wife's driver, but I get to drive it on trip!

Love this Car!
Love my Alltrack! While snug, it is a compact, its well oriented, and fun to drive. I have the sky roof option, and love it. Typical German engineering, simple on the frills, but great performance. Plenty of room in the trunk area for most anything. Visually a great looking car, inside and out. Outstanding gas mileage, and it'll even teach you to get the most out of it mileage wise.

Just My Observation of the car's qualities
Very few places to store much of anything in the front seat area. Too many electronic options &/or information through the radio & the steering wheel buttons. The Driver's Manual is a 365 page novel

The last of the Manuals... (or dodos...)
I am so happy I purchased this car new in May of 2018. It is the PERFECT car. A slick manual transmission linked to a 1.8 Turbo four that is plenty fast yet also can get 34mpg on the highway if properly driven. Discarding the "no-season" tires and upgrading to 235/45/18 all around with new wheels yielded much better looks and even better handling. It is a genuine pleasure to startle cars behind me on highway entrances or twists. Yet it has wagon versatility too; I've installed a trailer hitch and delight in parking next to all the trucks at the local boat launches. Equipped with 205/65/16 Nokian tires it devours winter roads from Maine to Quebec, providing predictable handling and AWD ability to any ski trip. Shame you can't fully turn off the traction control. Yet best for last: this is a manual. I'm a common working person. Many of the miles are not spent exploring the handling limits, they're spend commuting. This is where the manual shines. It is interesting, intuitive, and rewards when operated well. It makes a commute less dull than a slush box or whatever electric you prefer. It's a shame VW killed this one off; it is a magnificent salute to the euro wagon, devoid of needless paunch yet with all the creature comforts (heyyyy apple car play). It isn't overweight, it does everything you need, and heck it even looks good. America, you don't deserve this car (so you can't have it anymore). To quote Charlton Heston, "you're going to have to pry this from my cold dead hands". God bless the Alltrack and VW may your soul rot in xxxx for discontinuing this car.

love mine.
I owned a C240 AWD Benz wagon. It was falling apart but it was from MN and snow does that. This car is its counterpart in the sense that it is set up the same. I love the 4cyl turbo, as it really goes, and the AWD is perfect to get out when it snows. It's RED and I love it. I really think this car is the best in AWD, pep, and function.

To be blunt, this is the best car I've owned
In 2019 I was looking to replace my Subaru with a sporty wagon which offered a more engaging driving experience and found that the Alltrack had been on the market for 3 years. Strange that I hadn't seen any advertising or marketing of any sort for it. Called up my local VW dealer and scheduled a test drive. Drove both a DSG SEL Alltrack and a 4motion Sportwagen. I wasn't really sold on either. It perhaps had something to do with the low profile tires on each vehicle in hindsight, but I did like the handling, acceleration, smaller and thusly more maneuverable size vs the bloated Outback. It just had too much road feel. I went home sort of confused since I expected to fall in love with the Alltrack. A month went by and then I saw a green/brown S trim Alltrack available at another dealer. I was really only into the aesthetics since the styling is perfect on these cars imo and green is my favorite color on vehicles so I thought what the heck why not try this one..maybe they're all different. So I drove down and checked it out. Gave it a drive around Vancouver and a quick jaunt at 55mph on I-5 and it was exactly what I was looking for. Engaging, but not a harsh ride like the SEL and Sportwagen. I mentioned the tire size before - the S trim has 17 inch wheels, which seem to feel much more comfortable on this vehicle. The SEL had 18 inch low profiles. I don't know, it's the only difference I can find in terms of the power and drivetrain from the other wagens I drove. Anyhow, traded in my Outback immediately and drove home in the Alltrack. Got it for $23.8k and the dealer threw in a free entended warranty. I doubt I'll ever use it, but they didn't have to do that so I appreciate it. I have 30k miles on it right now and have driven it from Olympia, WA to Glacier Park and back 4 times, taken it to Minnesota and back twice and to Portland and Seaside/Cannon Beach a few times. I have had absolutely zero issues with the vehicle and I cannot be happier with it. I've since replaced the tires with a set of Nokian WRG4s and moved to northern Minnesota. The pairing of the Nokians and the Alltrack's 4motion system has been amazing in the winter here. I cannot complain about anything with this car beyond the poor legroom in the rear passenger seats and the odd placement of the USB port in the center console. This was the last of the wagens in the USA for the foreseeable future and I don't plan on parting with mine unless I'm forced to, in which case I'll find a used one.

Best VW ever offered!
I've owned over 30 cars and I still have an e30, VW MK1 Cab & W201 in the garage but I love driving this Alltrack. Sure it's no speed demon like a Audi SQ5 or handles like a GTI but for the 90% of the time this car is perfect. Good engine, the 1.8T is just enough for everyday use. Handling is better than most SUV. Cargo space even more than an SQ5. Fuel economy is acceptable at 25mpg in the city. Overall looks with the roof rails, cladding and wheels makes for a really nice, very well equipped Volkswagen. One day this will be another classic VW.

Drives like a sports car
This is a great car. I owned a 2017 and when I learned that VW wouldn't be offering the Alltrack in 2021 I traded in the 2017 and bought a 2019. When the Alltrack first came out, the auto press praised it as a "Subaru beater," based on its features and performance. Apparently, VW dropped the Alltrack from its line due to low sales numbers. No wonder - VW never promoted the Alltrack, never educating the consumer on how much better a car it is compared to its Subaru counterpart.

No problems at 8500 miles
Amazing mileage recorded after the first 600 miles. I did a twenty mile loop on a road w/o stop signs or red lights. Car averaged 40 mpg at 30 mph and easily gets 38 mpg on the highway. 1.8 l and six speed automatic.
