If you are looking for a car that is tame when you want it to be but sporty when you put your foot down than this is the car for you. The styling, functionality and drive all come together to provide a fun to own, slick car.
Fun car rides like a coal cart!
Enjoy everything about this car except the terrible ride. Overall spring-rate is great for the track but not a normal street or highway. Looks cool but rattles your eyeballs even when driven gently. We've owned 3 GTIs since '87 and enjoyed all except for this ride issue. It also causes the sunroof screen to vibrate open as you drive.
Love driving it, reliable so far.....
Gobs of low end torque makes it so easy to drive the GTI, and the 6-speed manual transmission is so much nicer than my wife's 5-speed Golf. It handles really well, and, the cabin is pretty quiet and the car is very stable even at speeds above 100 mph. I have the base model with 17-inch wheels which provide a pretty comfortable ride overall. I wouldn't get the 18-inch wheels unless they are accompanied by the dynamic chassis control. I think the ride would be too stiff without it. I'm glad I didn't get the Autobahn trim which is a lot more money. I sometimes think about the Rabbit edition, which was great value, but I didn't like the black wheels or the colour choices. Overall, I absolutely love this car, and I've had no problems with it in 7 months of ownership. One caveat on that....I don't push the car close to its limits very often, and, that may be why I've had no issues.
The most fun you can have, with your pants on.
38.5 mpg on 65 mph 4 lane, and 44.9 on 2 lane 55 mph highway trip. This car has soul. Hybrid drivers should surrender their Man Card.
Gti - wow! Surprised and impressed!!
This being my first VW, I have only good things to say: surprisingly roomy, very fun to drive, quick and responsive, what a trunk! The conveniences in this car will impress w/ too many details to list, from the one-touch-down on all 4 windows, to the intuitive automatic (rain sensing) wipers. The wheel has such smooth leather and the shifter is almost perfectly shaped. Interior quality is superb, if somebody told me I was in an Audi or a BMW - I would believe them. Every trip in this car is fun, from parking w/ such a small footprint to passing traffic w/ ease. Cannot recommend this Gti enough!
It is a terrible car
I do not like this car what so ever . This car is so bad I almost fell out the car I would beat up the creater of this vehicle
A LOT of car for the money with tons of features.
a VERY versatile car; comfortable and sporty. Lots of fun to drive it. It has many features that a similarly equipped BMW or Mercedes costs twice the amount. I love how it parks itself, vertically, parallel and on an angle.
Superb Handling and Quiet Car - Worth the Money?
This was the first time I have ever driven a Golf GTI SE. I took the car on some city streets and also on the highway to get a feel for the car at lower and higher speeds. I have to say I was surprised at how well the car handled, rode, performed, and how quiet it was in the cabin. The seats were supportive and the ride was more supple than I would have expected. This car is a lot of fun to drive and the stereo provides a good sound to go along with the ride. My only negative thoughts about this car are the following: - Manual seats only and no power seats - at this price point? - No lumbar for the driver or passenger seat - didn't need it during test drive but with an SI joint issue I think I'd need it long term. - Manual select shift (in automatic) - engine seems to over-rev when downshifting. - No power sunroof shade - at this price point? Bottom line is that this car impressed me in many ways and I think it is a lot of fun to drive, a great ride, and I could be happy in this car for a daily commute or long haul trip. However, for the money there are other competitors out there that provide more bang for your buck in my opinion.
The most fun car ive ever owned!
The best value for a small sports hatch! Amazinng driving dynamics! great ride for highway cruising and very sporting in the hills and curves!! Ive owned several sports cars and this is the best driving car Ive owned better than my IS350 and Bmw M3
Car has a well-established track record - it is quick with great handling, road feel, and it really packs you in. As a long-time VW guy, it meets all my needs. Wellesley (MA) VW staff (Charles P) were great; let the car sell itself.
