Great commuter car - TDI
TDI - 38 MPG all around winter/43 mpg summer. Reliable, only issue w/ 50K mileshas been to replace the heater fan control. Good car. Not exciting, but I love the MPG.

UNDEPENDABLE, Do NOT waste your money.
Roundtrip fuel cost from northern Arizona to south Florida for about $400. Fabulous! But then a problem with a fuel injector at 26K miles and another similar failure at 37K miles and then another at 62K miles. And inbetween these failures, the panoramic elctro-mechanical and frames HAD to replaced when it jammed open. And now finally at 82K miles, an electrical malfunction with the radio causing the battrery to be totally drained had to be replaced, $ 876.00. Every four to six months something major fails with this car. I am returning to HONDA, where I know I'll get another ten years of worry-free years DEPENDABILITY.

Diesel is the future
I went from a Rav4 to this VW TDI station wagon. I lost a lot of space, but I can not tell you how happy I am with the mileage. I haven't been through a winter yet, so I don't know how it will be in a serious snow storm, but hopefully with a good set of tires, all will be fine. I was amazed how comfortable the seats were; much more comfortable than the Rav4. The power of the TDI is amazing. No lag at all, picks right up when merging on the highway, or zipping around the city. And on the highway... can't stop her! I can not understand why diesels are not more popular in the USA. It is so odd to me. I do add lubricant to the fuel to help with the engine, because the diesel here in the US isn't as good a quality as in Europe. No big deal. Well worth the difference of of +20 MPG!!!

Jetta - a great car
Nice car! Rides and handles very nicely. i felt instantly at home in the Jetta. Everything was pretty much intuitive. Mileage averaging about 28-29mpg. Definitely has that solid German car ride and feel. Everything about this car seems to be well thought out and implemented. German engineering at it's finest! Haven't owned it long enough to know the reliability, but am hoping it lives up to what I read in Consumer Reports!! Bluetooth feature is nice for hands-free talking while driving, but as reported by people on the other end of the line, they can't hear me very well...

Great Wagon
This is my third Jetta and first Jetta Wagon. I put over 250K on the previous two and had them each for 11 years. I've had the Sportwagen for a year and a half now and have 40K on it. It is the best Jetta yet. More solid, more power, better handling and great mileage. I bought the S model and the dealer threw in alloy wheels. After 40K and 18 months, there is absolutely no wear at all on the interior. I'm 6'4" and 250lbs and the fit is great. I can go for long trips and be comfortable the entire time. My daily commute is 84 miles and with the 2.5 liter gas model I average 31 mpg. I get that mileage in doing normal driving, not babying it. If I slow down and baby it, I get as high as 34 mpg. I'm looking forward to getting at least 350K out of this one. So far I've had 0 reliabilty issues. I really like this car and highly reccommend it.

6 month review
Initial quality problems, spent 2 of first 6 weeks at dealer - no fun for me or them. Engine O2 sensors. Car handles and rides very nicely, miss several featurs not available - seats with memory, smart mirror. Fuel mileage consistently above 42 with manual transmission and mixed city - hwy driving. Car everyday commuter. Clutch touchy, stall frequently - I've owned manual transmissions only for 40 years of driving. Sunroof fairly quiet, use it a lot. Cruise control easy to use. I like the car.

Never had an issue! Car has been trouble free....
One of the best cars I've ever owned. Oil changes at the dealer and that's about it. Starts about the same during the Winter as it does in the Summer. Love the MPG. Combined highway/city is right at 39-40MPG. Solid ride, good sound system, great feel when driving on the highway, very smooth, nothing compares that gets this kind of economy.

Traded Benz for TDI
& haven't had any regrets. Traded down to save $, plan & simple. What I gave up, 'Benz' name, 6 cyl., convertible; self-dimming mirrors. gained: 38 mpg combined vs. 25; lots of storage capacity; great touch-screen radio/stereo; DSG trans., bluetooth, heated ext mirrors; in-dash 6-changer CD; ipod integ.; etc. Will save 50% monthly payment + save fuel + $1300 tax credit + 3/36 sked maint included; write-off sales tax in '09.

Dang Fun to Drive
Have over 6000 miles now. Love driving the car, the turbo part of the TDI is seriously fun. We have a manual tranny so that makes it even more fun. Complaints include a bit cramped for driver's feet when on cruise control and wished it had AWD. Snow about to fly here so we will see how it does with the new snow tires. I am expecting no problems. Besides being fun, the car has great utility. I remodeled a cottage bathroom and was able to take lots of tools and materials plus I only got charged $15 at dump for a full car load - they had no idea how much such a little car would hold. I test drove alot of other things and kept coming back to this. So much more fun and almost all of the utility (sacrificed AWD). Oh, and the 35mpg in the city and 42 on the highway we get doesn't stink either. We had a Volvo XC and it had lots more bells and whistles and such (full power seats, steering wheel controls) but I really don't miss them at all. Thought I would, but the big smile on my face as I zip around in the car seems to be a worthy trade! No reliability issues. Been to the dealer to get it washed and to get help with reseting the multi-function display (long embarrassing story) but nothing that counts in the reliability column.
