I've owned them all and this is the best

I was hesitant to buy a "diesel" and pay the extra to get it but I made the right decision. I bought my Jetta TDI in May 2010 brand new. I have 98,000 miles on it as I am a road warrior driving 200-300 miles per day for my work. I LOVE THIS CAR! I've owned Mercedes, toyotas, hondas, bmw's, you name it and this car is still as rock solid as the day I bought it. No squeaks or rattles. I've replaced the battery and tires and changed the oil every 10k miles. I routinely get 43-49 miles to the gallon. I got the premium addition and the navigation with bluetooth and built in adapter for the IPHONE is the best. My laptop can be plugged into the plug in in the back seat area and I can charge that while I am using my iphone or ipad. I am going to be giving this car to my daughter in June when I will have turned about 120K miles on it and get me a Passat TDI. I go about 580-630 miles on a tank full of gas (14.5 gallons) which costs me about $55-62 per tank. I drive it also to tucson during baseball season and if its just my wife and I will get 50+ mpg going the speed limit. I've researched all the other "great gas mileage cars" and none compare to these VW's. Very very impressed with this car.

best car I've ever owned

i"ve beed buying VW's since my first 02 Diesel. I brought a Standard shift. I needed an automatic. I couldn't find a 03 or 06 Diesel, (they didn't have them then. I found an 09 jetta Diesel. My wife and I love it. things changed in my life and I was able to trade in my 03 passat 1.8 gas tubo for a 2012 Jetta Diesel. we now have two jetta diesels. we love them both. My wife now commutes with the 2012 and I use the 09 for playing around.(I'm retired). We took a small trip with the new one of a round trip of 180 miles. The trip odometer said we got 53.3 MPG on that trip, I can live with that. we haven't spent a dime on the 09 since we brought it. but the 40,000mile check up and oil change will be a little expensive when it comes up. but we brought the 2012 because of the good luck with the 09. and we like driving the Diesel. They run good on the road.(read that quick) and they will cruse at any speed you can afford, don't ask how we know that? yes, both cars have the DSG?? transmission and that's ok too. I didn't know my 09 had a 6 CD changer in the radio till lately. And yes, we need help with the blue tooth stuff(ok, we are old folks), I miss the electric back of the front seat on the 2012(like I have on the 09) "O" both cars are red because of the Fog we have on the gulf coast.

Versatile value

I needed a car that would meet a lot of requirements - great mileage for commuting, car-type (not SUV) comfort, large enough to hold 4 adults, and could handle skis, kayaks, etc. This 2011 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI is perfect for all the above. I was unsure how I'd like the diesel, never having owned one before, but it's a total non-issue. Diesel is readily available, and there is no knock or smell or fumes that plagued diesels in the past. And the turbo really gets the car moving to freeway speeds fast, but I still get 40 mpg on average.

1st New Car

We love this car! The brakes are breath-taking, the handling in amazing and the I-5 has a surprising amount of power. Much bigger than we thought for a Jetta. HUGE trunk.

Jetta Wagon TDI

I am not a car guy. I wanted a smaller more fuel efficient vehicle and was interested in the new diesels. I have never had a diesel. Probably a bad investment given the good mileage of the gasoline models. I am very happy with the car. Very nice interior, plenty of performance for me. Fun to see the MPG above 50 on the highway. One thought... most of the stations that sell diesel near me are blending it with biodiesel and the warrantee limits to 5% blend. I think the optimal tax benefit is about a 7% blend, but the pumps all seem to say 5-20% Biodiesel. Frustrated finding straight diesel, but have found one or two inconvenient places to buy fuel. I would have thought given the manufacturer limitations the fuel would be easier to find. Did I mention I am very happy with the car? ( gave 5 stars reliability...its got 5k miles so far, so far so good! )

5k miles so far so good

I bought the tdi with navigation. Really happy with it so far. Mileage is great. Lots of torque. I've owned other jetta bfore that was gas not diesel. That was the best commuter car I've owned. This time I went with diesel

Wow 42 mpg and not batteries

I do not understand why the auto mags have not given the VW Jetta TDI stellar reviews. This car has a nice ride, good handling, tons of space, and oh yes 42 mgg with a solid 39 mpg around town! That is awesome... Sure it is lacking a few things but for around $27k you get a lot of car. If you commute long distances or are on the road a lot this car will get you there in comfort and great gas mileage!

TDI Surprise

This is my 4th new car in 7 years. 2006 Civic, seat was uncomfortable, literally a pain in the butt. 08 Altima Hybrid couldn't get 40 mpg and I was annoyed at the switching between electric and gas modes. Then I bought a 2009 Nissan Rogue, that was a very nice ride, but as gas prices went up I wanted better MPG. The 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI offers the space, comfort and MPG I was looking for. The TDI runs like a top, I am averaging 42 MPG with just over 8,000 miles, but I expected that. What has suprised me are the little convience touches that add to an over all great package. Auto up and down on all four windows, tilt and telescope steering wheel, height adjustable center arm rest and windshield wipers that while driving tuck under the hood but when you need to clean the blades or change them they move to a service position just by pushing the wiper stalk down. The over all fit and finish of this fine VW make it a value every new car buyer should consider. Forget the hybrids and dump your SUV, get a TDI.
