Fuel economy is best I've seen

I recently bought the 2019 Jetta SEL and I am really impressed with the fuel economy. Driving in the city I'm average 35-38 mpg. I've driven 85 miles since the last fueling and it's only down by 1/8 of a tank and still saying 420 miles to empty. Not bad for a 13 gallon tank. I'm anxious to try it out on a trip if I'm getting this good of fuel economy in day-to-day city driving.

Loving my new Jetta

Lovw the look on the outside and the look and comfort on the inside. They white/grey interior is so nice and the slant in the stereo and flat screen is perfect. My Jetta is brand new and the inside still smells like crayon. I thought at first it was from the plastic that the seats were wrapped in when I bought it. But still the smell is there. Beside that it is the perfect car to me.

It feels like our luxury car

Drives beautifully like both of the luxury cars we have owned (Jaguar XJ8 and Range Rover Evoke) and its technology is incredible. It has all the bells and whistles of the luxury car lines but it is much CHEAPER TO RUN! It advertised 30-40mpg and we get that every single time. Plus it runs on the cheapest gas. However, it has a PATHETIC sounding horn. VW need to up their game because it looks good, drives great and has the best tech, but we are too embarrassed to even honk! So basically, when the 2019 Jetta actually talks, you are cringing, and, everyone else is laughing! VW, sort this out, please? It squeaks. Such a sound is not worthy of its handsome & elegant looks and sporty inside. We have a two tone interior which gives it a sporty feel. Power steering is so light it's like moving your fingers through air. It works with our Apple phones. The screen dash can be changed to suit your own preferences, we both like the map which stretches right across the dash screen behind the wheel. It has all the tech necessary to keep us safe on the roads - the only thing we do notice when we set cruise control is that when the road has even the slightest curve, the breaking system doesn't kick in when the car in front slows. There needs to be more sensors all along to front of the car and to the sides a little, so when going round a curve it automatically slows when the car in front slows. It obviously does this on a straight road and it works like a charm, but does NOT work when the road isn't straight and when cars are on the curve in front. A beeping sensor for front and back would be helpful for parking. Other than that we'd recommend it. We have only had it three months so more updates may follow.

Sad giving up my jeep but needed a car with better gas mileage and low miles for my long commute. Love the fuel economy, drive and stylish look!

No good if driver frequently enters and exits.

I rented this car for a morning of delivering ~300 newspapers and I was excited when I saw it had start/stop technology, but unfortunately, it was not a good experience. I’m not accustomed to shutting the car off and taking the key out every time I get out to take two or twenty steps and toss a paper, but apparently that is what the designers expect of anyone operating their car. I opened the door around 150 times this morning and every time, there was a loud beeping alarm as the car ‘warned’ me that it was still on. It was audible halfway down the block on quiet residential streets at 4 am because it usually kept going the entire time the door was open. We occasionally hear from customers if our radio’s too loud, so I’m sure if I drove this car regularly complaints would only be a matter of time. Other than the in-your-face beeping, it would unpredictably (about 1 every 8 times) not restart when I got back in, and would ask to be manually restarted. If this were as simple as turning the key, I wouldn’t have minded what I assume were occasional malfunctions of the start/stop system. But instead, the sequence went: put in gear, press gas, notice nothing happens, follow dash instructions to put back in P, turn key, read helpful direction to press brake in order to start car, finally get it started and then—put it back in gear. Sometimes, if I was lucky, I could roll it downhill in neutral and it would remember it was supposed to be running after all. Although, the first time this happened, the sudden lack of power steering could have been an issue. Basically, the start/stop system by itself would be great, but it’s hobbled by so many modern ‘features’ that it renders the car unusable for any kind of door-to-door delivery work which would otherwise be a great fit for the capability. Because a few people couldn’t tell their car was still running, all drivers now suffer every time the door is opened without removing the key. No amount of gas savings could possibly pay me enough to do another morning of work listening to this car blaring away for hours on end. I looked in the manual, I googled, I looked through the settings with the handy steering wheel buttons, but couldn’t find a way to turn the alarm off. Pity—the turn radius was really great.

Lost some nice features between 2017 and 2019

This will be my third and last Jetta SE. Helpful conveniences are missing in the electronics: doesn't allow for two phones to be connected simultaneously, doesn't display contact icons, doesn't display names of stations or songs playing.... WHAT????? Slow pickup, "mushy" steering ~ not happy with this car.

The little engine that could!

**Disclaimer ** I am a vw lover since the 80s and I have owned 15. This car reminds me why I fell in love in the first place. I recently replaced my GTI which was a great car, a race car really. Super tight and powerful but for day to day living the 2019 Jetta may be a better car. The ride quality is great, smooth and compliant and quiet. Honestly it's like a much more expensive car. The handling is surprisingly good. Not like the gti mind you but flat in corners and pretty tight considering the ride quality. The interior cabin quality is good, a few hard plastics but nice in all the right places. The engine might be the best part depending on criteria. The gas miles is the best I've seen. Passive freeway driving, maybe 5 over returns 50 easily. My light Foot gets 40 around town. HP and torque numbers only tell half the story, when and for how long does it deliver those numbers. Again this isn't a gti but the engine moves out smartly at all speeds and conditions. The best part of this car is the value, particularly as a base model. I love manual transmissions so the S was perfect, wit the drivers assist package and car-go and monster matts was $15,500 plus ttl. AWESOME! And 6 year bumper to bumper warranty. Did I mention that I LOVE this car
