My wife and I were going shopping for a new SUV at a Subaru dealership but weren't sure about the CVT on the Forester when we ran across a used 2014 Tiguan with only 1,700 miles on it. We both liked the functional but restrained look of the interior of the Tiguan with its smaller, well-integrated screen rather than the fussy look of dashboards in other cars. This Tiguan was the SEL with every option other than 4 motion. With nearly 80,000 miles on it, I am still pleased on how it handles in Los Angeles freeway traffic. It has enough power to smoothly merge onto freeways and it has very tight and true tracking despite freeway bumps and potholes. Reliability has been very good. This model year solved the chain tensioner issue plaguing earlier years and this was also one of the last model years to be built in Germany so its fit and finish has held up very well.

Had it for 7 years now.

Handles great and has been super reliable. It corners like a car but is durable like a truck. I have a nice truck but often would rather drive my Tiguan. I certainly would buy another one.

Very Professional and knowledgeable

I called the dealership and was transferred to Ron Askew, he was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, efficient, and professional. I would definitely refer customers to Mr. Askew.

Very reliable and fun to drive.

Very solid vehicle. Handles all weather conditions and always felt safe driving it. Lots of pep and has a large capacity to haul stuff. I would buy another one.

Really disappointed

All sorts of electrical issues. But also just learned I will soon need new struts, coil springs and sway bars - on a 2014 Tiguan with UNDER 46k miles! I didn't have to replace those big-ticket items on my 2006 Honda CRV until it was 12 years old and had nearly 200k miles. No way I should be facing this expensive a repair on a car with so few miles.

Fun, practical and reliable.

Great small family SUV. Trunk is a bit too small but otherwise perfect commuter and kid friendly vehicle. Engine is very reliable and low maintenance. Capable on snow and mud.

Love the interior of this car and how it drives

Love the interior. Leather touches on the inside and chrome touches on the exterior. Handles gear for a SUV. I owed one before and glad I bought another one.

VW Afficianado - I've owned 5 VWs

We owned a 2007 Passat Sportswagen with the 2.0 turbo, which we purchased used and absolutely loved. We traded that in on a 2012 Jetta TDI, which would get 45 mpg, but we returned it during the dieselgate scandal. We still own a 2012 Golf, which I gave to my daughter who turned 16 this year, which is when I bought my 2014 Tiguan. I also purchased a 2008 EOS, manual transmission a few months later, but it needs a lot of TLC. However, lets talk about the Tiguan. I originally was looking for another used VW station wagon, but couldn't one at the right price and location. I was also looking at a 2010 Toureg, which sold 20 minutes before I got to the dealership to look at it. So, the 2014 Tiguan was a 3rd choice and also at a VW dealership close by, where I have my other VWs serviced. I've been able to stuff a lot of things in the back of my Tiguan. After folding down the rear seats, you can put 20 bags of mulch in the back. By folding down the front passenger seat, flat, I've also been able to bring home a palm tree. So, it's far exceeded my expectations for cargo carrying capacity. The Good: Great acceleration as you would expect from a turbo. Very comfortable and stylish interior. Bluetooth connectivity for playing from my phone's playlist on long trips. It's a good looking vehicle. The Bad: It does not get 26 mpg unless you are doing 60 mph - realistically expect 24 mpg when doing 70+ on the highway. Limited towing capacity @ 2200 due to the limited torque (207 foot/lb) You're only going to fit 4 adults in the car - realistically Now, for comparison, my 2012 Golf (now the teenager's car) gets 32 mpg consistently with the ancient 2.5 five cylinder engine. It's now pushing 120K on the odometer. My 2008 EOS, which I purchases a few months after the Tiguan, has the same 2.0 Turbo and gets 30+ mpg with the manual 6 speed trans. Similarly, our old 2007 Passat with the 2.0 turbo would get 30 mpg on the highway for a mid-size wagon. So, for the Tiguan it has to be the gearing in either the transmission or the differential. Overall I am fairly happy with this vehicle after owning it for almost 10 months.

Fun, versatile small SUV

My Tiguan has been a tremendous vehicle for me and my family- fun to drive, comfortable, good in snow and able to haul kids or stuff or for commuting. Small and agile enough to be great in the city at rush hour, but also comfortable for long trips.
