The worst lemon ever!

I bought this car, and very soon after I obtained it, the problems just just coming up. It was always something with this thing, absolutely the most unreliable hunk of junk I have ever seen. This volvo has caused me nothing but headaches and has cleaned out my wallet. If you are thinking of buying one, I would strongly urge you to look elsewhere

98 Volvo S70 Turbo T-5

Great car got it for a good price and it is a great running car, Volvo's tend to have electrical problems, wiring and fuses, but I haven't really experience that with this one except a headlamp issue, other than that a great buy if you get one that has been maintenanced regularly!!!

VERY HAPPY WITH MY 1998 S70 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought mine in '04 and its done a good job for me. Sure I had to get some things done at the dealer which hurt my pocket in the beginning but since then its been a very positive experience. Finding a GOOD private (non-dealer) mechanic will help tremendously to your enjoyment of this vehicle. The key is to change the oil regularly, catch issues before they get big and checks at regular intervals (tires, fluids, tune ups etc). I presently have over 178K in July 2010 and its still going strong. I have a base model, the turbo would be the only thing I would add to the engine. The only thing bad I can say is that the non-turbo engine is a bit sluggish during acceleration BUT this is a Volvo and I didn't buy it to win any races.............I plan to drive this vehicle until the wheels fall off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best car I have ever owned

I bought this vehicle used in 2008. i at first was reluctant because of the age of the vehicle and all. i was astonished by how it was and is in excellent shape for the year. I mean there is some wear and tear on certain things and there are a lot of general maintenance I had to do to it, but overall, it has been a great car. I have the T-5 236 horse power motor and I love it. There is one thing though and that would be whenever I punch the accelerator, the one wire comes loose from the distributor cap. I suppose that is a easy fix. Also the repair of these cars can be quite costly comparted to those of a more popular brand such as a ford or chevy. This car has a LOT of room inside both back and front seats. The power control on the window on the drivers side broke along with the panel that fits underneath the glove box on both sides. The interior could have been made better I believe, but I love the car in general. It is FAST and economical. It has 154k miles on it and the motor purrs like a kitten but is as fast as a cheetah with total control even at high speeds. Last week I got 28.5 mpg highway. The car has easy to learn instruments. I absolutely love this car!! With a car that size and power, I get that good of mileage is a miracle. Thanks Volvo for being a continued quality SAFE automobile and now fun to drive as well.

This One Has Style!

This has been my all-time favorite vehicle. It has the notable boxy Volvo look yet is really classy and sporty. I am a fan of the muscle cars of the late 60's and early 70's. To me, the S70 will be remembered as "Volvo's muscle car"--it has performance and style! I wish they still made them!

Good car for a couple, not a family

this car was a great buy for us becuase our van was being taken away from us. I would say the reliability is average, our timing belt went crazy and cracked the upper part of our engine, which was a $3,500 repair (half the price we paid) The comfort of this vehicle is amazing, its SO COMFORTABLE! Because its a Volvo i would think that the car would have more features, but for a 98 its pretty well equipped. The Turbp 5 cylinder is REALLY FAST! we tested the 0-60 and got it to 60 in 6 seconds, Handling, is once again OUTSTANDING! the second you turn it turns, which can be kinda scary at times when you swerve a little. the interior design could be more family orented but for us its fine becuse most of our kids are going to college. with the timing belt going crazy and the car buzzing at a stop light or in Park we are currently thinking about thinking of getting a new car, only because the car is really exspensive to repair. (because its and import) The gas millage could be better in town we average 20.3 miles per gallon which is okay for a turbo but could be better. As you can see we dont get the over 400 miles in city driving we get 374 which is okay with an 18 gallon tank. this car is really nice but best left for a couple or a family with an infant. OVERALL this car is very nice and its a volvo so its really safe.

Not very reliable

Electronic modules are going out 1 by 1. Continual repairs running about $2-3k/year - something goes wrong every 3-6 months, even with low mileage. Visibility is very bad out the back - headrests are too high, mirrors are too small.

Can't go wrong with a Volvo

When you think of a safe car, the first word that comes to mind is a Volvo. Who cares if it's not the sportest looking vehical on the market. Who cares if it doesn't have 300+ HP. It's safe and it lasts for a long, long time. Plus it retains it's value over a period of time. If you want something that's fast or that looks "hot", than you'll be sacrificing quality. If you take care of this car, it will take care of you and keep you safe.
