I drove several Volvo's, 340-1.
I drove several Volvo's, 340-1.7 (1984), 460 (1995), V40 1.9D (1998), V40 2.0T(2001), V40 2.0T(2004), V60 2.0T(2012) the V40 2.0T is by farout my favorite car I drove, I still regret the swap to the V60 ( although I had the wish/dream once to drive a 5 cilinder 850T5R), that 5 5 cilinder has a marvelous sound)

Performs like new after 13 years of ownership
13 years behind the wheel of a classic, 2 cross country moves, and even 10 fishing trips to backwater Canada, and nearly 200k miles later, it's time for me to on. The above reviews are essentially accurate for my vehicle, even at this late stage. The blown lightbulbs and the particular difficulty of changing the driver's side bulbs (you have to take out the battery) are the only ongoing maintenance issue that I've encountered. To be clear, every prospective buyer should know that this car is a TRUE IMPORT (the American "2004" V40 is leftover 2003 European stock that was sold off here after both lines were discontinued), and nearly two decades after it was manufactured in Slovakia, I would not own one without a reliable import specialist or Volvo dealership service close at hand. Generally, dealers in Florida, Illinois, Maryland, and Virginia (we've moved a lot) have all provided excellent maintenance at prices competitive with a good import specialist. In January 2020, it just got 30 MPH fully loaded with books on 200 mile drive from our old home at sea level to our new Appalachian home at 3000 feet, in 16 degree weather, all while sliding by slower traffic on the mountain grades and handling curves better than our 2019 Outback. Best car I'll ever own. I've had money budgeted for something newer and "nicer" since 2012. But the old rally wagon did every job that I needed it to for almost eight years and has only cost me a few thousand dollars in non-routine maintenance. My niece is thrilled to get it as a hand me down, because it's an affluent cliche. But if shabby chic is your thing, I highly recommend buying one for a very young or very old driver, where the handling, safety, and gas mileage will appreciated. One more thing: My dogs (German Shepherd and Cattle Dog) have loved this vehicle inordinately... they never want to ride in the other car, whatever that is. Another thing: Flying out of Toronto on the 401 express lanes, just eating that very special traffic xxxx for breakfast, is a joy that will forever be lost when I no longer drive this car.

Wonderful under estimated Volvo
This is one of the best Volvo cars, I have owned. I have owned about 25 Volvos. It is quick, nimble, hardly leans in the curves, unlike older Volvos. The computer says it is getting 41 MPG on the expressway.

Keeps on running like the energized bunny
It is a great model with a lot of value for the price, came loaded like a more expensive luxury vehicle for a portion of the price, quick response and really good handling this was one for the ages.

Beautiful to look at-even better to drive!
This is the newest and most expensive car I have purchased, and it has been worth it! I searched for a few months for the right model year for the right price and found it. I love my car!

Great Little Car
After driving Jettas for many years I decided to treat myself to a little more "Cush". Look at S70's, V70's and S60's. Om I bought mine in April with 70K on it. I have since pn a whim I decided to look at 40's. Bought mine in April with 70K on it. Have since put on over 12K. It rides well, handles great and with sensible driving, gets 30 around town (country driving) and 35+ on highway. Every once in a while I get on it and put it through its paces, it responds wonderfully (I think it likes it!!). I've also gotten many compliments on its looks. Gave a friend a ride and all he kept saying for the entire time was "this is a nice car". Only issue so far is blown brake light bulbs, but I can live with that. Definitely would recomend it to a friend and plan on getting lots more miles out ot it.

I love my v40
This is a great car. Looks different than the conventional boxy Volvo. Very comfortable front seats. Handles very well. Very fuel efficient at 30 mph on the highways. Back seat a little cramped for taller adults.

Great Car, a couple of problems
My wife and I bought this car new. The styling is great, there is plenty of cargo space for one child, one large dog and some luggage. There has been one nagging problem. I have replaced rotors on the brakes four times. I drive the brakes very gently so this is definately not an operator problem. I have been through two sets of mechanics and the problem continues to pop up. It is an expensive, recurring problem. Hard to believe that everybody has the same problem with lamps burning out but that has been a problem with us also. Go figure. That is pretty minor really. Very comfortable car. MPG is better than we expected, close to 32 mpg using regular gas on the highway. We are up to 107,000 miles and still going w/o any major complaints besides the brakes and rotors. I'll probably go back to Toyota when it is time to get something new.

A solid car and sexy too!
The car handles very well, no matter the weather conditions. The gas mileage is better than I expected (30-35 mpg). The only annoyance is the low clearance and the light bulbs that constantly burn out, otherwise this is a terrific car!
