Well worth it's weight in gold
We've owned our XC90 for 3 yrs and are quite happy. It has NEVER broken down on us so we haven't had to pay for costly repairs. The tires/brakes are amazing and have helped in some close calls on the highway. My family is very safe and secure in this vehicle. Plus, I love all the bells and whistles like the heated seats in the front and the rear seat radio inputs for the kids to use.

Great Car for a Family
I have had this car for about 11 months and have throughly enjoyed it. It rides smooth and has a classic design. I have received so many compliments on the car from family, friends and strangers. The service package is excellent. Anytime I have a problem I just call the Volvo dealership and they send there mobile technician out to my house or job to fix the problem even on holidays. This has been a great purchase for me and my family.

Great car
I love this car. It has been reliable, comfortable, and an overall good choice for my family. The speaker system on the DVD player is a bit insufficient to hear over road noise, but when used with headphones there is no problem. That is the only weakness I have found with the car.

Most Reliable Car I've Owned
2005 XC90 is excellent in every way. The smoothest ride/drive I have ever had, nice & quiet. So comfortable for all of my family of 5. We have had no problems with it so far and would (and do) highly recommend this car to a famly member or friend. EXCELLENT SUV! Most Reliable Car I've Owned!

No Resale Value
We bought a Volvo XC90 brand new in 2005 after much research. We bought it because of it's great safety ratings, reliability, and resale value. We are now needing to trade it in for a minivan due to the arrival of baby #3. What we have found is that in 2 1/2 years of ownership our XC90 has lost half of it's original value. We were shocked to receive a trade in offer of $20,500 when our original MSRP was $44,000. Beware before you buy a XC90 - the resale value is not there.

Nice engine but unreliable with no dealer support
I have owned the XC90 V8 2005 for 2+ years. I have to say that it has had a lot of quality control issues and the dealer acts like I am the only one with problems. I know better, as I know 2 other owners with similar problems. I do like the engine, and the gas mileage is actually pretty respectable. The resale is awful though, and I can't sell the vehicle for any more than auction price, which means I'm out 25K in 2 and a half years. I would look at BMW or Toyota for reliability. The tires only last about 8-10,000 miles and need to be replaced.

Excellent Vehicle for Traveling and Comfort
We have had our XC90 V8 since mid 2005. It is fully loaded with Navigation system, AWD, parking sensors, third row seating (yes, it is a tight fit, really only for small adults and children), an impressive array of safety items (airbags, side curtains from front to back, Roll-Over Gyro stabilization)...everything but the DVD Video system. The 6 speed transmission is excellent as is the ability to manually shift the fully automatic (Geartronic) transmission. We now have over 32,000 miles on this vehicle and it is extremely reliable. For it's size we get great mileage (16-18 city (actual) and 22-23 highway (actual)). We have had no problems to date with the vehicle. Even the tires (although I am not a fan of Michelin) are still looking great. I am hoping that more tire companies start producing the 235-60-VR18 tires. The overall handling is excellent, whether it is dry or wet. We are extremely happy with this vehicle and highly recommend it to others (the V8 version that is, I can't speak for the other models). Just as a side note our friends purchased a Toyota Sequoia V8 and they are lucky to get 16 MPG on the highway. For my money it has the looks, the style, the acceleration, the comfort, the quality and gas mileage to make it a top performer. Yes, most people do have to get over the idea that it is a Volvo. But we have driven the "competition" and feel that the Volvo XC90 V8 is the best value for the money!

Stay away from the XC90s
The Volvo dealer would not even buy our fully loaded 2005 XC90 T6, that is what a piece of junk the XC90s are and Volvo knows it! We have 6 cars including Ferraris, Hondas, Jeeps, Pontiacs. Volvo buyer beware, the only thing good about the XC90 is the ride quality. However ride quality does not matter when the driveshaft fails(twice), the left front strut fails(twice), tires wore out at 20k miles, and the left front axel seal failed which leaked all the oil out. Not to mention little things like the defroster barely works(and also failed) and the seat heaters mysteriously turn on. Then there are the interior ergonometric issues - try taking a family to McDonalds, there is no place to put stuff. I emailed Volvo a 65 item list, and suggested they require their engineers to drive a Toyota or Honda for 6 months of ergonometric research before starting the next interior redesign. We put up with the XC90(for 35,000 miles and 18mo), the final straw was when we were leaving for a family vacation and the axel seal failed ? leaving us stranded on the freeway. I would not trust this car any farther than I could throw it. After we were stranded, my wife and I went out the next day and purchased a Toyota Sequoia. We are now in HEAVEN ? everything works, nothing breaks.

worst purchase in 30 years! NEVER buy one
In the shop more than on the road. Heaven forbid the post warrenty customer. A true gas hog. Would consistantly have several major problems at a time. Dealer has little respect for the customer. Stay away!
