The 5 cylinder 2.5T doesn't have enough power? Really? Mine has plenty of power for the shortest uphill freeway accerlation lane. If you want reliability and endurance get the 2.5Turbo. If you tow maybe get the V8, but I've been told by two volvo mechanics that the 2.5 is the better engine. And Don't get the T6--very bad GM transmission. Love how it drives, the safety features. Lots of cargo space-- or 7 Passengers. AWD works great in the snow. You do need to get quality tires with good warranties because it does eat tires. Also, you get better performance/gas mileage with premium gas--come-on, don't be cheap.If buying premium tires and premium gas make you balk, then maybe you should buy a cheaper car. This is, after all a premium SUV.

While attempting to upgrade from the Ford SUV pack I decided to test some luxury models as well. After weeks of driving Ford's Explorer, Edge, Freestyle/Taurus X, Lincoln's MKX, Navigator, Mercedes M-Class and BMW-X5 I was most impressed with the Volvo XC90. I drove both the I5 and V8 models and was very impressed with both models but decided to buy the V8 since I had sold my 04 F150 Lariat SuperCrew to downsize to an SUV needing to pull my 6x10' utility trailer. Since making the purchase I have pulled the trailer twice and wow...cannot tell the trailer is there. Looking forward to a long relationship.

My 2006 Volvo XC90 is great investment in the realm of safe and most reliable vehicle I've owned. The only thing is I outright bought the vehicle thinking I would not trade it in for anything. Now, I want the new one! My only negative experience (and there were many) is with the maintenance section of the Volvo dealership (where I bought the vehicle in Hawaii) that services my vehicle. Their vehicel maintenance program is substandard to the perfomance and credibility of the Vovlo quality, name, and customer service.

You get European design and handling in a car that is designed with safety as its priority. The 5 cylinder 2.5T, and the V8 are great. STAY AWAY FROM THE T-6 (6 cylinder)unless you like replacing transmissions!

Just great car highly recommended, this is my second XC90 and the third will be the same. And the Volvo service is excellent.

I have owned the XC90 for two years now. Loved it in the beginning, the turbo, the way it handled.. Still love the exterior, the features and handling, but have had constant issues. Have had the tran replaced at 42K miles. Have had new brakes and of course two sets of tires as the mfr tires were horrible. Constant front end knocking- ball joints, bearings etc. Brakes lock up in reverse at times-very strange things. The engine no longer sounds like turbo charged, rather a normal engine. I don't seem to get the "get up and go" that I did in the beginning, even after a replaced transmission. We'll see..

My previous car was a 1996 Ford Explorer and I really thought it was a great car; however it doesn't hold a candle to the Volvo XC-90. This is by far the nicest and safest car I have every owned. The V-8 version has fantastic acceleration and can run with the best of them. This car goes one step further and it is also one of the safest cars on the road which is most important to me and my family. I have read all about problems with this car, but I have not experienced any of them. Our local dealer is also very accomodating and terrific to work with. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!

Many problems: the car needs 10 minutes to warm up before transmission will allow car to go into reverse! Gas mileage is far worse than posted. Indicator lights on rear view goes on constantly. Not a fan!

look at all other Lux SUVs.. for me hands dwn the XC90 was everything I needed plus more... I would not have my family drive anything else !

This is my 2nd SUV, my first being a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. By far, the XC90 eclipses the jeep in handling, style and comfort. I had an 05 s60 prior to getting the XC90 and the XC90 handles as smoothly and as nimbly as the s60 sedan. The truck is an awesome family car, feels solid and is quite comfortable both as the daily commuter vehicle and as our family road car. I have had no real problems with the truck, but had the OEM Pirellis replaced by Volvo due to premature wear. The Volvo delarer couldn't have been nicer. In sum, I will plan to drive this one into the ground and will strongly consider replacing it with another Volvo. I'm now a Volvo for lifer!
