  • Driver's seat Causes Injury

I had this car for about 2 years before replacing it, and I was happy to see it go. It's a cute car with decent horsepower, but other than that, I mostly have bad things to report. There are several negative things I could say about this car, but the reason I'm writing the review is to warn others that the driver's seat can cause certain people severely painful spinal/tailbone damage. I know two other Escape owners this has happened to, so it's not just me! There's some sort of a metal piece deep in the seat that you can't really feel noticeably, but it irritates your tailbone while driving. One of the first days I did a significant amount of driving in it, I was in such pain I almost had to go to the doctor. I could barely walk! And this is NOT a normal, "I'm a little sore because I drove a lot" pain. This is serious, scary pain. The only way I was able to continue driving this car was with a thick pillow placed on the seat. I once spent 13 hours sitting on a rusted metal bench on a 3rd class train in Thailand, and I didn't have the pain the seat in the 2013 Escape caused me. A car shouldn't cause its driver bodily harm. On top of that, this car is also a pain in the butt to use in a variety of other ways. The dashboard is NOT intuitive and it was a massive difficulty trying to figure out something as simple as playing my mp3 player. Zillions of confusing menus, no help from the manual...AND as if that wasn't enough, this car repeatedly had coolant leaks the entire time I had it. I'd fix a coolant leak (not cheap) and a few weeks to a few months later, the "low coolant" light would ding on again. Drove me MAD! I'm so happy to have sold this hunk of metal and replaced it with a Honda. Don't buy this car unless you're a masochist who enjoys suffering.

  • Speedy lil SUV

Very reliable, 2.0 ecoboost will fly. It’s too fast at times and tires slip. FWD not AWD. Holds up well. Good little SUV. Comfortable seats.

  • Recalls on 2013 are many! Still in worth it!

As a 100% Permanent and totally disable veteran we purchased the ford escape because we thought is would be a trust worthy vehicle to get me to my VA appointment’s! However the vehicle would stall in some of the most “Dangerous” situations. Never at full speed,But when you slow and the RPM drop below 1000 RPM the car will not turn off but it will stall. The only thing that can be done is stop the vehicle, put the car in park and restart the car, hopefully the car will remain under power until you clear the danger zones. Typically: turning left across traffic, pulling out into traffic with plenty of time until the car stalls. I’ve had my grandchildren in the car and have cost to the side of the road. The car stalls and all I can do in try to roll off the road. The car must be shut down, put in park and restarted. Sometimes up to three times. This while cars are traveling at 55/70. Slamming on theirs breaks because I wasn’t completely off the road. We do not drive our Grandchildren in the 2013 For Escape. Because the very Serious Safety conditions. I’ve served 26 years defending my county and Need a dependable vehicle to get me to my many VA appointments. Right now we have another recall for the Transmission and door latches. I reported this safety issues a few years back and there was about 55 other people with the same issue. They just explained it differently. I’ve reported this to the NTSB. I also called and spoke with ford. My vehicle was recalled for the stalling problem. I just found this out feb 8 from a ford Rep Named Demarcus Hargrove! He did a great job looking and and giving me the current owner, the information regarding an very dangerous situation!! when I reported the stalling issue my mileage was around 125K, I was told the the extended the warranty to 150K. HOWEVER NO ONE TOLD ME AND NO ONE SENT A LETTER. I’ve had my car fully serviced at D&D FORD I’n Greer SC, and the did not see any recall on my car. I can easily trade this car in and do what was done to me and simple don’t say anything. However someone will get KILLED in this car! The only thing I know to do is take this recall list to the VA and the legal team. This is the only car we have and it’s sitting in the drive way! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Remove the fact the car stalls, and in the most unsafe conditions, and you must put the car in park, and restart the car to try and get out of the way (DANGEROUS. Today I was told my car was part of the recall but it was sent to the previous owner. I have been fighting for over two years for any information at all! I know my car has a manufacturer issue. It leaks coolant inside the motor into the number three cylinder. The is nonCoolant leak any where from the motor all. You can smell It burning the coolant behind the car. We carry coolant everywhere we go! If Ford would repair these recalls I would continue to drive the Ford Edge. Maybe a new Focus or Edge. The cars drive great, and I honestly would stay with the fords, but the situation I’m in know really needs to be addressed! It’s one of the best handling SAV/SUV’s I’ve every drove! Come on Ford lest fix the car or lest get a new safe car the VA an upgrade it to help this old VET Drive!!!

  • Ford escape is a lemon.

Keep leaking antifreeze. I have had it in the shop twice but it still leaks. Transmission has been replaced twice but still has a miss. Panel in back doesn't fit floor.

  • Worst Car in my Life - Zero Stars

Run, don’t walk, away from this car. I bought it new, gently drove it nearly all highway mikes, all scheduled maintenance and this thing has been one headache after another. The transmission died at 60K miles. Then the engine wouldn’t go above 40 miles per hour. Then the a/c went out. It’s new trick: It shakes and dies when accelerating. There are also issues with the brake pressure. This make and model car should not be on the road. I expected more life out of a new Ford. The handle fell of the seat so the driver’s seat won’t recline. It’s cheap plastic. I am the only driver and rarely move the seat. The passenger window won’t roll down on the passenger side, but the driver can roll it down. The battery has to be replaced at a shop because you have to remove the wind shield wipers first. I could go on and on and on. Based on my experience with this car, I will NEVER EVER buy a Ford again. I caution every single person I meet to stay away from all things Ford. To say I have been screwed over by Ford is an understatement. Every time I turn around it’s $500 here, $600 there, I’m so mad.

  • Very satisfied at 70k miles 2013 SEL AWD

We already had a 2016 S model that was trouble free for 4 years and currently 48k miles. I replaced my spare car with the 2013 SEL AWD loaded like a Titanium. After 2 years it has been fantastic. Only trouble was 2 bad rear wheel speed sensors. Cost me $54 in parts to replace myself. Many 250 mile interstate round trip drives and never an issue. It had 62k miles when I bought it with full documentation of all minor repairs and maintenance. Regardless of reviews I got a good one. Check the history, check out before you buy, and you can find a good one like I did. They are not all bad.

  • I love my 2013 Escape but I bought mine new.

This is my second Ford Escape. My first was a 2003. I loved both. I purchased my 2013 in mid-2012 and special ordered it for the color (Red). I have the 2.0 liter engine, which is important. The smaller engine has been prone to fires and other problems but not the 2.0. I have had minor recalls for things like a seatbelt and something else. I love the color, I am happy with how it performs. I was a little concerned about performance when I bought it because it is a 4.0 cylinder and I had been driving 6 cylinder engines prior to this purchase. Not an issue. My only one complaint is that it said it got better gas mileage than it does. However, I have gone from driving a lot of freeway miles when it did perform better to now driving locally and maybe using a tank of gas a month.

  • Lemon on the Road...can't even make lemonade

Worst car I have ever owned. With all the recalls and roof leak, I am not able to drive it outside the city limits for fear it will break down (which it has done before...) and as an 81 year old female that is exactly what I don't need...an unreliable car. I purchased the previously owned 2013 Escape from Car Max in 2015 because I could not afford a new one. A mistake to begin with. Why were they even allowed to sell a car with so many issues already? I am still getting "recalls" and it is totally inconvenient in itself!
