(upbeat music) Hi, this is Joe Bruzek from cars.com. We're here at road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and I've got the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS and the 2008 Chevrolet, H H R S S. (engine revving) The big changes for the 2008 are under the hood.
The first-generation SS had a supercharged 205 horsepower, four cylinder. The 2008 has a turbocharged 260 horsepower, four cylinder. Made it to a five-speed manual transmission. And on the road course out here, it's definitely got plenty of power to get you around. That combined with the sports suspension really makes it fun to drive on the track. On the inside, you have common features that we see without in the sport compact cars. You have a high bolstered seats, twin color seats with SS stitching inside. We also have a boost gauge on the A pillar and unique gauges for the SS. It's got different 18 inch wheels, and you can still get the large spoiler on the back, but it's an option, the smaller spoiler comes standard. Part of the SS package is a different front end styling rocker panel, and also rear styling as well. (engine revving) The 2008 H R S S is more than an HHR with an SS bed slapped on it. It's got a 260 horsepower, four cylinder turbocharged engine with a five-speed manual transmission. You can get an automatic, but power comes down with the automatic. Styling is different on this as well. You've got the sporty front end, side rockers, and rear styling as well. The inside of the HHR S S has similar treatments as the Cobalt. Now you've got your side bolster seats, the two tone color, boost gauge on the A pillar. Difference is, the colored interior, it looks a little tacky, just the brushed aluminum or fake brushed aluminum, I think would've been better than the painted red. And also being an HHR, there's limited visibility because it's a real tight roof line and I couldn't get the seats low enough for me, it's a really high seating position, which made visibility and driving a little difficult. Being an HHR, there's lots of cargo versatility, and you can fold down the second row, and you can also fold down the front passenger seat to create a flat loading space. The HHR and Cobalt SS have similar performance capabilities, but the Cobalt is a bit sportier simply because it's a two door coupe. The HHR is a lot more versatile and it's your choice because they're pretty much the same price around 22 to 23,000. And for the price, there's a lot of bang for your buck.
