Which Cars Are Made Outside the U.S.?

With a change of administrations in the White House for 2025, the U.S. automotive industry is grappling with the implications. Among the most pressing concerns are tariffs that could greatly affect manufacturing decisions — and, ultimately, the vehicles that show up on dealership lots for you to buy.

President re-elect Donald Trump has previously considered higher tariffs on imported vehicles in an effort to return some of that workforce to the U.S., and Joe Biden pushed through tariffs with Chinese-imported vehicles in August. But what’s notable is how little either’s efforts have moved the needle overall for vehicles produced here. Since Cars.com’s American-Made Index began detailing every vehicle made in the U.S. in 2020, the number of nameplates has stayed roughly the same despite policy redirections, the challenges of a pandemic and a shift toward electrification.

Whether that changes moving forward remains to be seen, but ahead of further policy details and potential manufacturing shifts, we’ve gathered the brands and nameplates of those vehicles produced outside the U.S. to shed further light on how complex the carmaking process can be. Below is that list for model-year 2024 broken out by the badge on the hood. A few caveats: Source data were collected primarily from the American Automobile Labeling Act, which requires automakers to report the location of final assembly for all light-duty vehicles (that is, vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 10,000 pounds). Heavy-duty pickup trucks, low-sales exotics, and commercial and government fleet vehicles aren’t included there, so we’ve attempted to fill in gaps where pertinent and possible. Though less stringent than our AMI criteria, the below breakdown offers a rough snapshot of what non-American vehicle manufacturing looks like heading into a new presidency.
