(upbeat music) Hi, I'm Kelsey Mays for Cars.com and we're at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show checking out BMW's redesigned 3 Series Coupe. Except it's not called the 3 Series now.
BMW has decided to call this car the 4 Series to better differentiate it from the 3 Series Sedan that was recently redesigned. This is not actually the production 4 Series Coupe. This is a 4 Series concept Coupe. It appears very close to the production version that we will eventually get here in the United States. Let's check it out. A lot going on here up front. We'll see how much makes it to production. There are adaptive LED headlights here. BMW is traditional twin kidney grill is on top of a lot of body work around the lower part of the bumper. There's actually a satin aluminum finish here. Again, probably this will be toned down to something a little bit more benign when it comes to production time. The concept cars interior comes mostly wrapped in leather from areas like the upper doors all the way to the dashboard. Kind of splits the difference between the existing 3 Series Sedan interior, which shares a lot of styling elements with this and BMWs 6 Series Ion Luxury Coupe, which has a lot of leather wrapped elements on the inside. You get kind of cool things like this leather stitching. This woven stuff that goes up and down the seats. It carries over to the door inlays. We'll see how much of this stuff carries over when it comes time to make a production 4 Series Coupe. BMW says the 4 Series has a slightly longer wheel base, a wider stance and a considerably lower roof line than today's 3 Series Coupe. There's no word yet on a 4 Series Convertible but we don't really see why BMW would go back to the 3 Series for that specific version of the car. So stay tuned when we get more details of every production variant on this new 4 Series. (car revving)
