About the video
From the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, PickupTruck.com Editor Mark Williams takes a look at the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel.
(upbeat music) Continuing the outdoor theme here at this year's Detroit Auto Show, the introduction of the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel. Let's take a closer look. Okay, let's answer the obvious question here.
Where did the Crosshair Ram Grille go? It looks like Ram might be evolving away from that and towards something like this, big Ram name in the middle, molded grill to accent that name, and then also a bigger, more massive free flowing air front end. So with this outdoor package, actually, it's not the Outdoorsman, it's the Rebel, but it's a little bit more adventure seeking, a little bit more serious as far as a 4 x 4 package than the Outdoorsman, you can see it right up front. This isn't a plastic front. This is a steel skid plate. These are massive tow loops in case you get in trouble. A huge part of this new Rebel design are the big wheel cutouts. In fact, these are Power Wagon fender flares, but the front bumper is also cut out to provide a better approach angle. Big wheels and tires and four corner air suspension to allow for better ride height when you're navigating that incredibly difficult off-road trail. As far as cab configurations, crew cab only for right now. But as far as bed choices, only the short bed, but you can get either a regular pickup bed or the RamBox. But it's the back of the tailgate that is the most interesting to us. Massive five inch Ram lettering on the tailgate, but also get very cool dual exhausts. Exterior coloring, five different choices, but inside there's only one choice. This is what every one of these Ram Rebels are gonna look like, but it looks very cool. A lot of accent anodized metal looking materials, and also red accents and piping on the seats. But the coolest feature of all on this interior, the actual tread pattern of the tires that are on this truck duplicated on the seat backs and on the seats. Overall, we think this is a very well executed serious 4 x 4 package. It's got a great look and some great technology underneath. In fact, they've taken their normal transfer case with this air suspension that allows it to go up and down at multiple levels, gives it a taller ride height and, essentially, a better 4 x 4 traction capability. We think that makes perfect sense. But make no mistake, this is not a Raptor fighter. This isn't something that you're gonna blast down the desert like you would in a high-performance vehicle like the Raptor. But this vehicle, when it comes out second quarter this year, as a 2015 model, is gonna make a lot of people, who have a lot of outdoor activities on their checklist, very happy.
