(car hood closing) (upbeat music) (tires screeching) The pool of small entry-level SUV's, is getting awfully crowded these days. You've got players like the Honda HR-V, the Jeep Renegade, and here's Mazda's entrant in.
The all new CX-3, which slots below the CX-5, their compact SUV on the market right now. We'll take a look outside and in. Overall length of the CX-3, only about 168 inches, a little over that. About 10 inches shorter than the CX-5. So actually this is a very, very small SUV. A familiar face though. Mazda's grill here spreads very low along the front of the car. Connects visually to the headlights. Let's take a look at the inside. See how that length affects interior packaging. Now the CX-3 is based on the Mazda2 platform, and you can see a lot of similarities to that with the interior here, very asymmetrical, similar dashboard layout to the forthcoming, a redesigned Mazda2. This stretch here along the center part of the dashboard is stitched up nicely. It's soft to the touch. Same with these kind of knee pads right here. Some visual stuff to kind of pop out at you in terms of eye candy. A comfortable seating position in general, I'm sitting high enough. I'm six feet tall and I could go back maybe another inch or two in terms of the seat travel here. Overall, the touch points are, are pretty soft. Now there's no coverage storage, here in the center part of the CX-3. Instead, you've got your cup holders back here, but there's a decent size glove compartment. In terms of electronics here, at the auto show car. Six speed automatic. There's a sport to non-sport lever right here. Pretty simple layout that alters shift points for the automatic transmission. Mazda's now familiar from the Mazda3 multimedia system here puts a screen, a top the center part of the dashboard, that you can either control by touching on the screen, or using this knob with these hard shortcut keys right there. We have found it very easy to use in the Mazda3. Probably should translate to the CX-3. There is a head up display right here that uses kind of this fighter plane like screen that pops up. And that's what it displays everything in. Things like speed, other vital information to that. That's been pretty easy to use in the Mazda3. We expect no change for that in the CX-3. Let's take a look at the backseat. Now, backseats among entry-level kind of subcompact SUV's. Big battleground. There's a big variance between some of the better ones, and some of the worst ones. The CX-3 kind of middle of the road approach here. Not a ton of extra leg room, but the seat has a decent position off the ground. And pretty good headroom leftover. The CX-3 comes with front or all wheel drive, and a two liter four cylinder engine, with Mazda's SKYACTIV drive train technology. Full specs, including EPA mileage and horsepower. Still to come closer to the car's on sale date in spring of 2015. (car driving away)
