About the video

Chevrolet's tiny SUV is not our favorite - in fact, the 2016 Chevrolet Trax lost Cars.com's Subcompact SUV Challenge -- but an update for 2017 could fix that. The new Trax made its debut at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show.

Transcript

(engine turns over) And just the third model year of its current generation, the Chevrolet Trax gets some updates that give it a more sophisticated look inside and out, plus some new safety tech.
Upfront the Trax gets a more sophisticated look than before. Check out these headlights, more creased than they used to be with LED accent lighting here on this premiere trim level at the auto show. The grill still a split level unit, again like before, but the lower level, much broader, much more creased, more well-defined I got to say. It looks a lot like the grill on the redesigned Chevy Malibu and back a more similar look with an important difference though, in the lower bumper, which is now more body colored than before when there was a lot of gray clouding that kind of gave the tracks a bit of a downmarket look. Now inside the Trax's dashboard loses all of the storage cubbies it used to have before, but it adopts a much more grown-up look. A very cohesive here with kind of a stitched weaving that goes all the way from the left side to the right side in this car here at the auto show. Straightforward controls here, and a seven inch display, which now incorporates Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Important for all you tech lovers. One thing I do wish Chevy had invested a little bit more in were the door panels. Still lots of hard, kind of cheap plastic here. One of the things we didn't like about the old Trax. You don't have to necessarily get that. In competitors like the Honda HRV, but you do here in the Trax. On the safety front, a backup camera, previously optional is now standard and new options include blind spot, lane departure, and forward collision warning systems. Stay tuned for pricing closer to the new Trax's on sale date this fall.
