(car engine starting) We haven't had a convertible SUV here in the United States since the ill faded Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet. Well, here's a new one and it has just as convoluted of a name.
It's the Land Rover Range Rover Evoke convertible, which has a folding soft top and Land Rover says all the same off-road chops as the Evoke SUV. Let's take a walk around. Yeah the Range Rover Evoke convertible is dimensionally similar to the Evoke SUV. Land Rover says that it can still afford up to nearly 20 inches of water, according to Land Rover. This Z folding soft top here, it takes about 18 seconds to lower 21 seconds to raise. And there's a new multimedia system here for the Evoke convertible. It's got a 10.2 inch screen now. It seems to work pretty fast, but we'll have to see how it goes in the real world. It's just sort of on a demo mode right now. Now as convertibles go, the SUV is actually have a pretty decent backseat. Same was true for the Murano Cross Cabriolet. We've sat in this, adults are going to be okay back here for short trips. Trunk volume, about nine cubic feet, obviously a lot less trunk space than the Evoke SUV, but certainly enough to fit a few golf bags into, you know, go for a weekend trip. And the soft top, when it folds it doesn't actually intrude on trunk space at all. Now when you take the top off something, this big, you lose a lot of structural rigidity. And that certainly was the case for the Murano Cross Cabriolet, which was more noodley than a Top Ramen factory. Land Rover reportedly says that it maintains structural rigidity between the Evoke convertible and the Evoke SUV. We'll have to see how that goes. Once we drive it closer to this SUV convertibles on sale date in mid 2016. (trunk closing thud)
