(upbeat music) How a car sounds is integral to the overall sports car experience and the Civic Type R has very unique sounds both from under the hood and out back, and a lot of that is helped by this exhaust (car engine revving) I know it's got three...
tips, but it's functional and for a turbocharged 2.04 cylinder, it actually sounds pretty good. Honda had to give the type bar and aggressive exhaust note, but not one that's too loud because after all it's a global car and there are various noise restrictions depending on where the car is sold. So to accomplish that, they have this three muffler exhaust system, all three mufflers are connected, and what you see out back is that center exhaust tip is connected to a smaller resonator type muffler. And then on the outboard you have two larger mufflers, and how that works is at lower engine speeds, the exhaust is flowing through all three mufflers and gives around town driving a midi-basey exhaust sound, but then at higher speeds to keep noise and harshness in check and to reduce drone, the exhaust, then routes through those outside mufflers and it's not done through any valve or any kind of mechanical means it does that just through engineered exhaust flow and it works, it's a very livable exhaust sound. (upbeat music) This car is a riot to drive.
