If you didn't know that Kia made a car called the K900, well, I wouldn't really blame you. It was a big luxury sedan, it cost a lot of money and it was made from the 2015 through the 2018 model years. Not surprisingly, not that many people bought it.
Well, Kia is back at it again now with a redesign of the K900. Let's see if it has some more appeal. Now, like its predecessor, the K900 remains a very large, kind of, traditional looking luxury sedan, but some interesting new details. Yeah, we'll start with the headlights. They have these, sort of, LED rings that, kind of, sit out here in these pipes. They create this really interesting, kind of, 3D effect forward and backward. You can actually see from the profile of the vehicle. Kind of cool there. Now you might think this is basically Kia's version of the Genesis G90 from a parent automaker Hyundai. That's actually not really the case, Kia officials claim here at the auto show. They say this car shares more parts with the Stinger, Kia's, kind of, sports sedan than it does with the G90. Now despite Kia officials apparent distancing of the K900 and the G90, there are a lot of similarities on the inside. There's a 12.3 inch display here, similar to the G90. You use this knob down here to control the action or you can actually just use it as an ordinary touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, those are going to be standard. Obviously, cabin materials in the K900 are exemplary. There's lots of nice low gloss padded surfaces, plenty of stitching, including stitching here, even in the center part of the steering wheel, that's a premium feature you don't usually get even in, kind of, less expensive luxury cars. There's an analog clock here in the center part of the dashboard. It's from a Swiss luxury watch maker, Maurice LaCroix. Now, automatic emergency braking is standard, but if you're a fan of fizzy flavored water beverages, we'd suggest you pay attention because your LaCroix is probably not going to mix well with that LaCroix. Now it wouldn't be a top shelf luxury sedan if you didn't have some toys for those in back and the K900 certainly doesn't fail to disappoint. This car here at the auto show has a 14-way power seat for this passenger right here. There's also a climate zone. Heated and ventilated seats. There's even a wireless phone charging port right here between the two seats. Pretty cool stuff there. The question though becomes, how much is all this going to cost you? Well, the old K900 and it's final model, you're starting in the low $50,000 range. You could build it all the way out past $60,000. Obviously a lot for Kia, a brand more known for very, very inexpensive cars, relatively speaking. So we don't know how much this will cost. Kia says it expects it to be a very simple car to start out, very well-equipped and then maybe to have all these toys for the backseat passenger is maybe part of some kind of premium package. Stay tuned. We'll know a lot more closer to the new K900s on sale date in the fourth quarter of 2018.
