Car shoppers and content consumers continue to be amped up over electric vehicles in theory, if not exactly in practice, so it comes as little shock that more than half of Cars.com’s monthly countdown of the most popular news articles would (again) be dominated by EVs. But it does still feel at least a little strange when giants of internal combustion like the Chevrolet Corvette supercar and Hummer urban assault SUV go from iconic to ironic by getting born again as all-electric. And, yet, here we are, with Chevy’s coy announcement of a forthcoming hybrid and electric Vette and our expert review of the all-new GMC Hummer EV pickup truck generating lots of buzz.

From Chevrolet’s announcement about its electrified Corvette — which included a video teaser of the hybrid ripping around salt flats, throwing up enough sodium chloride to cause prehypertension — we’ve deduced several things and conjectured on others. It’ll be all-wheel drive; the front wheels are likely powered by electric motors; a gas engine presumably powers the rear wheels; it could be a new ZR1 variant or carry a unique model name; and it appears to take its exterior styling cues from the 2023 Corvette Z06. As for the all-electric version, which doesn’t appear in the teaser, we can logically speculate that it … exists.

For the full report on the upcoming electrified Vettes — purportedly arriving as early as next year — follow the link below to Cars.com’s No. 3 news story of the month.

Landing in 10th place on the countdown is Cars.com reviewer Aaron Bragman’s comprehensive critique of the 2023 Hummer EV pickup. Bragman wasn’t wild about the Hummer’s interior appointments given its price (about $112,000 for the Edition 1 he drove) as well as its so-so 7,500-pound towing capacity. On the other hand, the all-electric truck’s whiplash-inducing 3-second 0-60 mph sprint in WTF (Watts to Freedom) mode, nimble turning and handling on all terrain types, and exterior styling with special emphasis on LED deets all combine for an X-Men-level leap forward in EV evolution.

“I’d say the Hummer EV’s mission to get me to notice GM’s new tech is a smashing success,” Bragman writes in his review. “I’m now far more curious about the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra EVs than I was before, having been given a sample of the technology that’s going to trickle down into those upcoming trucks in the next few years. Until then, the Hummer EV remains the most awesome off-road electric vehicle out there.”
