The Nissan Rogue was the fifth bestselling compact SUV of 2022, and that’s saying a lot in a jam-packed field of competitors vying for crossover-crazed American car shoppers’ attention. And there’s a heckuva lot to like about the latest incarnation of the Rogue, which is essentially unchanged for the 2023 model year since its last redesign. In Cars.com’s most popular news story of the past week — a rapid-fire rundown of the compact SUV’s pros and cons — we call ’em like we see ’em. On the plus side are the Rogue’s ample headroom and good outward visibility; luxury-adjacent interior appointments; pragmatic, user-friendly, driver-focused controls that favor physical knobs and buttons over touch-sensitive vagueness; generous, adaptable cargo area; and efficient turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder powertrain. Holding the Rogue back are its unremarkable-to-unrefined ride; pricey upper-tier trims; lack of powertrain choices; and odds-and-ends annoyances like the lack of ventilated seats and reclining rear seats, as well as an awkward sliding shift lever.
