10 Biggest News Stories of the Week: Subaru Forester Can’t Circumvent Ascent
Sometimes, a car model is so popular that shoppers want to know everything about it — even if it has very little likelihood of affecting them. Such seems to be the case with the 2019 Subaru Ascent. The all-new-for-2019 family SUV was the subject of a recent recall for a defect that could result in bolts holding the driveshaft in place loosening and the front portion of the driveshaft disconnecting, increasing the risk of a crash. Despite the recall affecting only about 170 vehicles, our safety alert on the Ascent issue rose to No. 1 this week on our list of most read news articles.

Close behind at No. 2, quite coincidentally, was a Subaru SUV stablemate in the 2019 Forester, with our comprehensive rundown of Cars.com coverage constituting everything a shopper might need to know about the model, from pricing to crash tests to our expert review and beyond. Nipping at the Forester’s heels, meanwhile, was another recall, this one for around 6,900 Toyota and Lexus vehicles — including model-year 2019 Toyota Prius hatchbacks and RAV4 Hybrid SUVs; model-year 2019-20 Toyota Prius Prime hatchbacks; model-year 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid sedans; and model-year 2019 Lexus UX 250h SUVs, ES 300h, LS 500 and LS 500h sedans, and LC 500 coupes — for a problem affecting braking distance and stability control.
Rounding out this week’s top five were our handy-dandy shopper’s guide of all things we like about the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta (as well as a handful of things we’re not so impressed with) in fourth place, and our weekly roundup of all things pickup truck — this week’s proving F-150-centric for you Ford loyalists — in fifth.
