The Toyota Land Cruiser cruised right out of production after the 2021 model year, and the off-road SUV hasn’t been seen this side of Moab in the ensuing three years. Well, it’s back for the 2024 model year and could be bigger than ever … in a manner of speaking. Although it’s literally smaller in size, the Land Cruiser’s dramatically downsized base price could be enticing to would-be all-terrain enthusiasts on a budget.

As we reported in Cars.com’s most popular news article of the past week, the all-new Land Cruiser lands with a base price of $57,345 (all prices include destination). That’s a discount of roughly one-third off the 2021 version, which started well north of 80 grand. In addition to losing some physical stature, the SUV also drops down to four cylinders, losing horsepower but gaining torque — but don’t worry, all the asphalt-eschewing accouterments are present and accounted for.

Elsewhere on the big-SUV front is the 2024 GMC Acadia, headed in the opposite direction from the aforementioned Land Cruiser as it expands both its physical and fiscal footprints. The redesigned Acadia upsizes in price by several thousand dollars to $43,995. The full-size SUV’s larger-in-every-direction dimensions should help free up some legroom and elbowroom for third-row passengers who were cramped in the outgoing generation. Under the hood, the Acadia follows the disappearing-cylinders act of many new SUVs these days, dropping from six to four while managing to increase both horsepower and torque.
