2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Arriving Soon With Sporty New Look, Updated Infotainment

Volkswagen has teased a few details about the upcoming 2021 Tiguan SUV, expected to arrive in the U.S. later in 2020. The brand’s best-selling model globally is getting a new front and rear styling treatment, one that VW promises looks more dynamic and sporty than the current model. VW also released a teaser image of the new model, and from the illustration, it looks as if the Tiguan’s styling will be in line with the rest of the VW lineup, more closely resembling the cars than the other larger SUVs.

A few details have also been released. The 2021 Tiguan will now feature standard LED headlights, with the top trim versions getting the automatic cornering functions that adjust the beams — but the U.S. will not get the new “matrix-style” adaptive headlights that the European market will see.

The current powertrain lineup will continue unchanged, with the only engine being a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 184 horsepower mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission; front- or all-wheel drive are available. Diesel and plug-in hybrid electric models will remain for Europe only for now, but VW did state that it’s looking at a more performance-oriented version for the U.S. in the future.

On the inside, the new Tiguan will retain the five- or seven-passenger seating configurations, but the interior is set to receive a few updates, including a new multimedia system and a new steering wheel mirroring the one that was introduced in the new 2020 Atlas Sport Cross. VW says that the Travel Assist safety systems are also set to get upgrades.
