2024 Kia Sportage PHEV: Same Updates as Gas and Hybrid, Starts at $40,815
Kia seriously pumped up its compact Sportage SUV for 2023, stretching it both physically and metaphorically in the lineup with hybrid and plug-in hybrid offerings. Like the hybrid model, the 2024 Sportage PHEV gets second-row seat-mounted airbags and LED projection headlights as standard equipment, and it now starts at $40,815 (all prices include $1,325 destination charge).

Powertrain Specs and MPG
Combined output from the Sportage PHEV’s turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor is 261 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque. It uses a six-speed automatic transmission and is only available with all-wheel drive. With a 13.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack, the Sportage plug-in is good for an EPA-estimated 34 miles of electric range and 35 mpg combined once the gas engine kicks in.
Standard Safety Systems
As a $40,000 version of an SUV that starts below $30K, the 2024 Sportage PHEV comes loaded with luxury and tech features, including a generous complement of driver-assist systems. Standard equipment includes automatic high beams, driver attention warning, forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure prevention, blind spot monitor and collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic warning and rear parking sensors.
The higher X-Line Prestige trim adds adaptive cruise control that can adjust its speed for curves based on input from the navigation system, forward collision warning for intersections, front parking sensors and automated parking.
Availability and Pricing
The 2024 Kia Sportage plug-in hybrid is on sale now. Pricing starts at $40,815 for the X-Line and $45,315 for the X-Line Prestige.
Although the non-hybrid Sportage starts at $28,415, a fairer comparison is the similarly equipped, AWD X-Line, which starts at $33,215. The trim levels between the hybrid and plug-in don’t exactly line up, but the hybrid’s SX Prestige trim is close and costs $38,515.
