2025 Subaru WRX Drops Base Trim, Now Priced From $36,920
Looking solely at base prices, it looks like the Subaru WRX sees a substantial price increase for the 2025 model year. But what’s really happened is Subaru has responded to buyer preferences and changed the lineup by ditching the base trim level, as few bought it. Prices on the trims that do carry over increase by $1,165 for the Premium and Limited, and $1,540 for the GT.
Farewell TR, Hello tS
The other biggest change to the turbocharged, all-wheel-drive compact sedan for 2025 is the addition of the tS trim. For 2024, the most focused WRX was the TR — initials Subaru has previously used to mean “tuner-ready” — but the automaker must have decided it would just take care of things, as tS stands for “tuned by STI.”
The goods are largely the same. Whereas the TR rode on a sport-tuned suspension, the tS rides on three-mode adjustable dampers. But the Brembo brakes, 19-inch wheels wearing Bridgestone Potenza S007 performance tires, Recaro sport seats and synthetic suede upholstery remain (though the tS gets blue accents instead of red). Also like the TR, the tS deletes the moonroof that’s standard on the rest of the lineup to create more headroom for helmeted drivers.
Powertrain Specs and MPG
A turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four-cylinder remains the WRX’s sole engine offering, putting out 271 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque, with a six-speed manual transmission standard. A continuously variable automatic is an option on the now-entry-level Premium ($1,350) and Limited ($1,550) and standard on the GT. The CVT includes paddle shifters for drivers who want to manually work their way through eight preset gear ratios without pushing a clutch pedal.
AWD is standard on the 2025 Subaru WRX. With the manual transmission, the 2024 WRX returned an EPA-rated 19/26/22 mpg city/highway/combined; official EPA figures for the 2025 model aren’t yet available but should stay the same. WRXs with the CVT were rated at 18/25/21 mpg.

Safety Features and Trim Levels
Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance suite is standard on every 2025 WRX and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-centering steering assist, a driver-attention monitor and a rear-seat reminder.
The 2025 model’s base trim level, the Premium, also includes 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and windshield wiper de-icers. The Premium is upholstered in cloth, and its front seats are manually adjustable but heated. It also features dual-zone automatic climate control and an 11.6-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
EyeSight is upgraded on the Limited, adding blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert. The Limited also includes upgraded headlights, a power moonroof, power-adjustable driver’s seat, synthetic suede upholstery with red stitching, and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
The GT is the luxe WRX, with leather bolsters and red accents on its seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and the CVT as standard equipment. For the same price, buyers can choose the tS, which keeps the digital gauge cluster and, in addition to its performance goodies, is only available with the six-speed manual.
