Volkswagen’s reincarnated microbus is coming into focus as its on-sale date nears. Expected to arrive later in 2024, the all-electric 2025 ID. Buzz will be available with rear- or all-wheel drive, and a rainbow of exterior colors translate the classic look for the modern era with two-tone paint options, as well as three interior color palettes.

Battery and Motors

Elsewhere in the world, the ID. Buzz will be offered in two wheelbases, with two battery packs and lower-output electric motors. But here in the U.S., we will only get the longer wheelbase, the larger battery pack, and the more powerful motors. Every U.S.-market ID. Buzz will feature a 91-kilowatt-hour battery. Rear-drive vans will pack a single 282-horsepower motor on the rear axle, while AWD ID. Buzzes will boast 335 hp. Official range estimates and additional specs will be revealed closer to launch.

Trim Levels and Seating

VW has, however, outlined the three trim levels that will be available at launch: Pro S, Pro S Plus and a 2025-only 1st Edition. The Pro S will only be available with RWD, while Pro S Plus and 1st Edition buyers will have a choice of RWD or 4Motion AWD.

Shoppers picky about their seating might have their trim level chosen for them. The Pro S and RWD 1st Editions will only be offered with a second-row bench seat. A second-row bench or captain’s chairs are available on the rear-drive Pro S Plus, while captain’s chairs are standard on the 4Motion AWD variants.

Two-tone paint options pair a white roof and upper body with orange, yellow, blue, green, silver and gray below the beltline; or a silver upper body with a cherry-red lower; monochrome white, black and silver will also be available. Inside, three different interior palettes will be offered to match the exterior color. The Moonlight palette features dark-brown seats with white piping, blue door inserts and dark dash trim; Dune pairs light-gray seats with clay-colored piping and door inserts, as well as a lighter dash; and Copper features brown seats with yellow piping, brown door trim and a “washed wood-look” dash.

Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive will be standard on every ID. Buzz. This suite of advanced driver-assist systems includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure steering assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot collision prevention, rear cross-traffic alert, and hands-on semi-autonomous highway driving with automated lane changes. Automated parking will also be standard on every trim level.

Additionally, the Pro S will ride on 20-inch wheels and feature power-operated sliding doors and rear liftgate, keyless entry and starting, 30-color ambient lighting, a 12.9-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and wireless phone charging.

Upgrading to the Pro S Plus will net buyers a head-up display, 360-degree camera system and nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. A panoramic moonroof with electrochromic glass that varies its transparency will be available on the Pro S Plus.

The 1st Edition will only be available with two-tone paint. It will include all of the Pro S Plus’ standard equipment, as well as the electrochromic panoramic moonroof, unique 20-inch wheels, and 1st Edition badging inside and out. Flexboard storage bins that create a flat load floor with the rear seats folded will also be standard.
