GM Trucks Added to Takata Airbag Inflator Recall

For the first time, GM is issuing a preliminary recall related to the ; it includes model-year 2007-2011 half-ton pickup trucks and model-year 2009-2011 heavy-duty pickups and covers Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac brands. GM is among five automakers announcing additional Takata recalls today.

As noted in earlier Takata recall notices regarding Ford, Ram, Honda, Subaru and other automakers, this latest wave of recalls focuses on faulty passenger-side airbag inflators influenced by humidity levels, so right now the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling vehicles based on humidity in three geographic zones. NHTSA is pushing to make all Takata inflator recalls national in scope. To find out more about the various regions and the five manufacturers added to this latest round of recalls, click here.

Owners can call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov for more info. Owners also can check for recalls using their vehicle identification number on NHTSA’s VIN lookup tool or check GM's newly launched Takata recall website, which includes a VIN lookup tool.

GM vehicles now included in the Takata passenger-side airbag inflator recalls are:

  • 2007-11 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
  • 2007-11 GMC Sierra 1500
  • 2007-11 Chevrolet Avalanche
  • 2007-11 Cadillac Escalade EXT
  • 2009-11 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
  • 2009-11 GMC Sierra 2500/3500
