Hyundai announced Tuesday that existing electric vehicle owners and lessees, as well as those who purchase or lease certain new Hyundai EVs before Jan. 31, 2025, will be eligible to request a free North American Charging Standard adapter via the automaker’s MyHyundai ownership portal. The NACS adapter enables Hyundai owners to take advantage of DC fast charging at Tesla Superchargers nationwide.

Just what the process to acquire an adapter entails will be announced in 2025, however. Hyundai said in a statement that “details, instructions, and terms and conditions related to the process for owners to claim their complimentary adapter along with pricing for adapter units will be released in 2025 via HyundaiNews.com and additional customer-facing communication channels.”

Hyundai models eligible to receive an adapter include model-year 2024 and older Ioniq 5s and Ioniq EVs, as well as model-year 2025 and older Ioniq 5 Ns, Ioniq 6s and Kona EVs. 2025 Ioniq 5 models that aren’t the N variant will come with a built-in NACS charging port, and future Hyundai EVs like the Ioniq 9 SUV will, as well. Adapters will be needed for those models to access non-Tesla, Combined Charging System-style DC fast-charging stations and home charging equipment.

Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, will also take part in this adapter program. Details of its processes will be announced in 2025, as well.
