It’s a big year for Hyundai’s compact electric SUV, as Ioniq 5 manufacturing moves to a new plant in Georgia and the model gets a Tesla charging port for access to Tesla’s charging network. The Ioniq 5 also benefits from an exterior and interior refresh, and a new XRT trim level joins the lineup with a 0.9-inch suspension lift and rugged styling accents.

For all the improvements made to the 2025 Ioniq 5, Hyundai is only asking $780 more than it did for the 2024 model, with the base price set at $43,975 (all prices include $1,475 destination fee). Many buyers, however, will be able to pay less, as being built domestically means the 2025 Ioniq 5 qualifies for the federal EV tax credit.

Powertrain Specs and Range

Hyundai also increased the storage capacity of the Ioniq 5’s battery packs for 2025. The pack in the entry-level SE Standard Range grows from 58 kilowatt-hours to 63, increasing range from 220 miles to 245, according to the brand. The rest of the line gets an 84-kWh battery — up from 77.4 — which bumps range from 303 miles to 318 for rear-drive Ioniq 5s and from 260 miles to a high of 290 with all-wheel drive. The AWD Limited and new XRT are rated at 269 and 259 miles, respectively. Hyundai says that the Ioniq 5 can replenish its battery from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes on a 350-kilowatt DC fast charger.

The SE Standard Range also has a lower-output motor than the rest of the lineup. Mounted on the rear axle, it makes 168 horsepower. With the larger battery pack, the motor generates 225 hp. AWD is available for $3,500 on the SE and SEL and $3,900 on the Limited; it is standard on the XRT. Driving the front wheels, the second motor increases grunt to a total of 320 hp.

Safety Features and Trim Levels

Standard safety features on the 2025 Ioniq 5 include forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, intersection assist that watches for cross traffic during turns, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitors, lane departure steering assist, lane-centering steering, a driver-attention monitor, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear-seat reminder.

The SE Standard Range has 19-inch wheels, LED exterior lighting, and keyless entry and starting. Its cabin is upholstered in cloth and features a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, six speakers, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and voice recognition. Beyond the larger battery pack and increased motor output, the regular and AWD SE trims are largely the same as the Standard Range, though AWD versions also get a heat pump, which controls cabin temperature more efficiently than a traditional climate control system.

The SEL’s advanced safety suite gets upgraded with oncoming traffic detection, emergency steering assist, blind spot intervention, an advanced rear-occupant detection system, Hyundai’s Digital Key 2.0 and Highway Driving Assist 2, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-centering steering for a degree of hands-on semi-autonomous driving. The SEL also adds upgraded LED headlights, a hands-free power liftgate, synthetic leather upholstery, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated rear seats and steering wheel, and wireless device charging.

In addition to its unique styling, increased ride height and standard AWD, the XRT gains bidirectional charging, automated parking, a 360-degree parking camera, blind spot cameras and an eight-speaker Bose sound system. The Limited does away with the rugged appearance bits and all-terrain tires and adds a panoramic fixed-glass roof, head-up display and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Standard luxury features include ventilated front seats and ambient interior lighting.
