Jeep Grand Wagoneer Likely to Bow Sept. 3

Jeep released two more teaser images of its forthcoming Wagoneer — almost certainly the Grand Wagoneer, given the brand’s tweets on Aug. 10 and Aug. 16 — each with a three-word caption: “Coming September 3.” That means, in all likelihood, we’ll see Jeep’s long-anticipated three-row SUV before Labor Day.

The teaser shots join two others that Jeep released on Aug. 14, which showed the starter button and part of the SUV’s nameplate. Today’s images add to the puzzle: One appears to show a section of the nose, complete with “WAG” stamped above two of Jeep’s iconic vertical grille slots. The second is harder to discern, but we suspect it’s a knob controller next to some console trim, with what appears to be a horizontal dashboard display in the background. That could be the Grand Wagoneer’s implementation of the electronic gear-selector knob that’s proliferated across vehicles from parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. It could be a terrain-selector knob, something in vogue among off-road-focused SUVs. It could be the end of a custom umbrella that pops out, Rolls-Royce-style, from an orifice below.

OK, probably not that last one.

Expect plenty more to come Sept. 3. FCA has a habit of trickling out information in the days ahead of its vehicle reveals, and 13 such days exist between now and Sept. 3, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see more tidbits before the full unveiling. Stay tuned.
