The recently passed Inflation Reduction Act restored federal electric vehicle tax credits for many qualifying EVs. Unfortunately for Lucid Motors, its Air sedan didn’t qualify for said credits due to its price tag exceeding the $55,000 threshold. However, that isn’t stopping the company from offering buyers an internal $7,500 credit for the purchase of select Air variants anyway.
The $7,500 credit will apply to buyers that buy either the Air Grand Touring or Touring trims from now through March 31. The Air Touring starts at $109,050 and the Grand Touring at $139,650, respectively (prices include destination), so the $7,500 credit amounts to savings of 7% off for the Touring and 5% off for the Grand Touring — a welcome cushion for buyers looking to save some extra money on both trim levels.
In order to qualify for the credit, you must purchase an Air Grand Touring or Touring model no later than March 31 and take delivery no later than April 30. The offer also places restrictions on what features you can equip to the Air, with the PurLuxe interior, Stealth Package and metal roof all disqualifying factors. In addition, this latest credit cannot be bundled with an existing $7,500 savings program Lucid created for lessees.
This latest move comes amid a wave of recent price adjustments from EV manufacturers to combat both demand and shifting federal regulations. Most prominent among them is Tesla, which has changed pricing for its lineup four times in 2023.
