They pay for positive reviews

Notice how almost all 5 star reviews name the sales person and the lesser reviews rarely do? I've read on BBB.org a complaint dated 05/29/2018 that A Better Way Wholesale Autos gives gas cards to customers who leave 5 star reviews and I'm guessing one of the criteria is leaving the sales people's names. I'm not going to call out my sales person because I liked the guy, but I don't trust companies that pay for reviews. A number of things went wrong with my buying experience hence my negative review. First, I was promised 4 repairs: replace a cracked leaf spring, replace a door handle that was keeping interior light on and killing battery, a new battery to replace the one that sat discharged for extended periods of time, and fix an oil leak that was dripping oil right onto the exhaust manifold. Only the door handle and leaf spring - the two things that would affect my Mass safety inspection - got repaired. The promised repairs were noted on paper, my wife and I both saw it, but not on the disorienting, oversize sales contract and his notes were not included in the sales packet. Maybe the sales guy sent the demands to the service department and they decided not to do it. Who knows. Second, I did not dispute a single add on charge, I just signed on the lines next to where he asked me to because I needed to get out of there and pick up my kids. I was there for hours (dead battery, busy place.) What really angers me is the $200 VIN etch I opted for never got done. I can deal with being screwed over on the repairs that were promised by some sales man. What I cannot stand is not getting services I paid for. Third, I waited a week for the repairs before calling and asking if the truck was ready. I was told that it had been ready for days. No one called me. It was pouring rain when I picked up the truck so I didn't inspect it before taking it and even if I had realized the repairs hadn't been done before finalizing the purchase, I needed the truck right then. My car broke down and I needed a vehicle ASAP. How have they handled the situation? I don't know - I didn't try to resolve the problems. I'm sure they'll tell me to simply drop the truck off and they'll take care of everything. Well, it's an hour and a half drive one way to get a battery, change an o-ring, and get the VIN etch done. I'll eat the cost of the VIN etch and do the battery and oil leak repair myself and have fond memories of the time I had my very own bad used car dealer experience.

Mrs. Susan Creamer

I have been shopping for a new used car. Been on the internet at this site for approximately 3 months now. Been getting the most response from this dealership. And the quickest response from The sticker shop. Always ready to answer any questions I may have. Have just filled out my application for financing. Hope things go well.

Website is largely outdated

I've been looking for a used SUV for sometime now. I've emailed off the website as instructed and the reply time has been extremely slow. Additionally, "available" cars stay listed for weeks if not a month after they are sold. I also think they lower the price on each car "on the website" well after the car actually sells........seems fishy.

What a joke

This place is a joke. 'James' waited on me to see this Lexus that he had to go get from the lot down the street - that they don't want you to see for some reason - after he complained to me that he had somewhere to be and didn' t know where the car was exactly. When he finally brought the car like every warning light - including low gas - was on, and the spare had been just chucked in the hatchback on top. The car was dirty, and there was a piece of molding loose underneath the passenger door. The plastic for the front wheel well on that side was also loose. When I went to drive it he insisted I take a right, spewing some insurance bs, like your insurance company can dictate where you drive. Not sure what that lie was about but I ignored him. Afterward he told me they'd fix all those things (I didn't believe him), and I said I'd think about it. This car clearly had been in an accident but the price was so low that I figured I could put some money into it and come out with a nice car (it was a Lexus CT200h), so I texted James that I would like to buy the car and that I had pre approved financing through my bank, just let me know when they had fixed the things he said they would fix and I'd come back. NO RESPONSE. Can you believe that? I tell them I want to buy the car and they ignore me. OBVIOUSLY they had NO INTENTION of fixing the car at all. I then tried their stupid fake online chat and said I wanted to buy the car - NO RESPONSE. Anyhow clearly some people have had luck with these dipsticks but I assure you that's all it was - luck. The worst dealership I've ever dealt with, and believe me that's saying something. If you read this... consider yourself warned. Be patient, you'll find your great car - I got a beautiful , well cared for Lexus with no issues for less in a private sale like a week later.

sneaky tactics

These reviews are fake. This company is as crooked as Watergate. deposits are NON REFUNDABLE.... even if you don't get the car. Buyer beware. don't leave a deposit to hold a vehicle, don't give them money for anything unless you see something in writing stating "deposit is refundable". Because this company will exhaust you, waist your time, then have you sign papers that are to your disadvantage from sheer exhaustion.

Horrible experience

On Monday, July 1, 2019, my foster son R and I bought a white 2011 Audi A 5 Quattro with 114,000 miles at A Better Way in Naugatuck. After talking with a salesman named Paul, the three of us took the car for a test dive for about 20 minutes, including a stretch of Route 8 where we briefly got the car up to speed. We then purchased the car. The process, including arrangement of auto insurance and registration, took several hours; during this time the car was in their garage; we were told that it was being given final preparations. We were also told that the car was sold “as is,” with no warranties. After all the auto insurance paperwork had been arranged and we had paid $9,274 in cash, we waited an additional half hour while the dealership was registering the car, and at this time we were again told that the car was getting its final check at the garage, that there was no warranty, and that we could purchase a warranty for $3200 covering breakdowns. We declined this, because the three year/36,000 mile coverage would not cover the greater mileage we expected to add each year. Around 5 p.m. after a car-washing, R received the car keys. I drove home to East Hartford in my car; R was to drive the Audi to East Hartford. Before R ever got to East Hartford, the oil light went on. He phoned notice of this to the dealership. The next morning the check-engine light went on; he phoned notice of this to the dealership and drove to AutoZone for computer analysis, where AutoZone found a diagnosis of code P0420. According to AutoZone’s definition, “Code P0420 indicates that the Bank 1 Catalyst System efficiency was below threshold for a predetermined period of time.” The problem was due to the catalytic converter. We then drove the car to Hoffman Audi in East Hartford, where the mechanics found that the car also had low oil pressure, and the hoses going into the engine were routed improperly, which should be apparent to a mechanic. Also, the entire ladder frame needed to be rebuilt and an entire cylinder was replaced. The car burns over a quart and a half of oil every 300 miles even after repairs. The engine was totally rebuilt. The final cost of repairs at Hoffman Audi was over $10,000. The Better Way salesman whom we had notified said to bring it to their service center where we would be charged to repair it, but given a small discount, but what faith could we have in their service department? While the car had no warranty, there should certainly be an implied warranty of fitness literally at the time it was sold. At a minimum the oil and catalytic converter issues should have been discovered, and made known to us purchasers. We also were told that the service team at A Better way Wholesalers had given the car a quality inspection and there were no problems; we witnessed a member of their staff sign a paper saying so, and then we signed. It is not possible that a team of mechanics did not notice any of these problems. We think A Better Way should have been responsible, even though we have since discovered that a Connecticut statute does not protect the consumer if the car being purchased is over 7 years old. WE SPENT A TOTAL OF $20,000 ON A 2011 CAR; WE WILL NEVER GO NEAR THAT PLACE AGAIN!

No return calls

Have requested info on a couple vehicles and never heard back. Bad business ethics in my opinion. If you cant get back to a potential buyer what is going to happen after you buy a vehicle, no return calls. No thanks
