Great dealer, great people, great prices

Went to Monroeville dodge to get my first truck and they made it happen! Nick Gavalek my salesman really pulled through as well. Went to many places for them to turn me away and finally after I searched there and sat down with nick, that night I signed for a new truck! Definitely a place to check out if you're in the market for a car or truck!

Greedy and Untrustworthy

I had contacted Monroeville Dodge about purchasing a 2014 Durango. The dealership did not have the have the model in stock that I wanted. They did a dealer search and located one for me. Due to the drive time of 1 hour, I was unable to make it to the dealership that evening to put down the required deposit in order for Monroeville Dodge to go an pick up the Durango from another dealer. The salesman, Chad Carpenter, said that I could give him my credit card info and fill out a credit application over the phone to cover the deposit and that they needed and would have it for me the next day. I was then contacted the next morning @ 9:30am while I was at work to let me know the vehicle was there and they wanted to finalize the deal. I explained that I was work and was unable to talk. Chad Carpenter and the sales manager Jeff Yates continued to call and pressure me throughout the day. During these calls we tried to negotiate the cost of the navigation system. Jeff offered free tanks of gas, oil changes, etc. Jeff stated that he could fill my gas tank for me, but couldn't take anything more of the cost of the navigation. Jeff stated by giving me free gas instead, that this could be hidden from his supervisors and would offset the cost of the navigation. I texted Chad when I finished work to find out what time they were open to. He replied 9pm. I then texted him back to see how long it would take to get the Durango ready for delivery. I was ignored and didn't receive any communication back for two hours. In the mean time, my wife and I decided to get leave for the dealership anyway to make sure we got there in time since we had a 90 minute drive. When we were 5 minutes away from the dealership, I received a text from Chad stating that they sold the vehicle that I had put down a deposit on. This vehicle was my supposed to be my wife's anniversary present. This is the reason car dealerships and car salesman have a bad rap. Its dealerships like Monroeville Dodge. Save yourself the headache go somewhere else.

Dealer response

Message from Chad Carpenter: I was contacted by our Business Development Center via Kathryn Smith about Todd Scanlon on (9/29/14). I called Todd and we spoke about a 2014 White Dodge Durango SXT AWD 23B package. He had a list of things that the vehicle specifically had to have. Rallye appearance group, sunroof, tow package and the 8.4 touch screen radio which is navigation ready. Todd explained that he lived over an hour away and that he already had a deal pending from Diehl in Robinson at 0%X60 with $5,000 down at $552 a month. He explained to me that he would indeed do business with us if we were able to beat that deal. I had Blancy Mitchell run a locate and found 1 of 2 cars that fit his match. The car in question is at Cochran. So I had Melanie Stolar put together some numbers for us and we did beat the deal from Diehl. We came back at $543 X60 months thanks to a TDM in his wifes name. (Allison) So of course I call Todd and give him the good news and he tells me that he is pretty sure that he is going to do the deal but he has to check with his wife. We waited on him to come in a do paperwork for the vehicle till about 8:45 that night. It was their 30th anniversary and they were at Red Lobster in Robinson. He informs me that they wouldn't be able to make it in and he put his wife on the phone .She gave me her credit information and credit card # so we could count the deal and secure the car in question. Next morning I text him and asked him what time he would be in to take delivery as we have sent our driver to get the car in question. He (Todd) now tells me that the price that I gave him had to include activating the navigation system. I informed him that I would have to speak with my GM about that as we are on a supplier deal with no trade that there wasn't any room in the deal to do that. So I asked him if he would indeed split the cost with us and his answer was no that it was not worth it to him to do that. So my sales manager Jeff Yates tried contacting him while he was at work and he said that he would call back at his next break at 1:15. He and Jeff speak and make work something out. Todd says that he would still have to speak with his wife to make sure that it would be ok. I sent Todd a few texts to figure out when he would be coming out. He replied I'm at work, if and when I'm ready I'll let you know. So another customer came in and asked about a Durango that has similar equipment to the one that Todd showed interest in and I showed it to her demoed it and she sold it. I text him and informed him that it was sold. He text back that he'd be here in five minutes. He never once told me that he was actually coming so I sold it.

Avoid this dealer!

Monroeville Dodge does not seem to understand how to treat a customer. Their approach to sales appears to be extremely high pressure, intimidation, and deception. This was absolutely the worst car shopping experience I have had in more than 30 years of buying cars. The salesman was Ok (typical nice, friendly salesman). But, when we did not agree to buy a vehicle that we did not want, the floor manager came to talk to us. He was rude and pushy, and when we still did not agree to buy a vehicle that did not have the features we wanted, he became belligerent. In order to persuade us to buy cars that they had in stock or could easily get, it seemed that they were not entirely honest about the options included in one vehicle they were pushing, or about the availability of vehicles with certain option packages at other local dealers. Our own online research disagreed with what we were told. Additionally, it seemed that they were not offering all of the applicable incentives. And, it was not clear if they were giving us the proper Affiliate Discount. (They might have been, but it was difficult to determine because we were not given adequate opportunity to review the numbers on the papers that were quickly flashed in front of us. We did not buy from Monroeville Dodge. We bought from a competing dealer in Greensburg, and it was a very positive experience. If you want a Chrysler product, there are much better dealers than Monroeville Dodge.
