My wife and I contacted HiLo's dealership in Frederick
My wife and I contacted HiLo's dealership in Frederick about a truck listed in its inventory. We were contacted by a sales person who invited us to set up an appointment to test drive and possibly purchase the vehicle. We set up the appointment but, when we arrived at the dealership, were told that the truck was at one of their other locations. When we asked why they set up the appointment for a vehicle that wasn't really onsite, the sales manager apologized and offered to drive it to our home later that day. The sales person called several hours later and asked us to come back to the dealership instead of driving it to our home as promised. When we said that we could not drive back to the dealership that evening, he said that he would check with his manager. The manager called us later and told us that he could hold the vehicle for us only if we came in as soon as the dealership opened in the morning. If we could not come in at that time, the vehicle would be sold to another buyer. When I pointed out that they had brought us into the dealership under false pretenses, the manager said that his hands were tied because there was another buyer at the other location.

Lair, Liar, Do Not Buy From Them
I never write reviews but feel this deserves one. We flew out to pick up a car from HI-Lo and found out we were being sold a could be nice car by a bunch of liars. We walked out of the deal on principal as we could not support them. We were told this navigator has new tires, new battery, in perfect condition. Turns out battery had corrosion on it and was from 2018, tires had cracks in them and were dated 2019. And the entire bottom of the tailgate was rusted with bubbling paint that had already started to crack off. The salesman said, It wasn't rust but just peeling paint. Complete lie. This car was priced over NADA but we're willing to pay that if in condition as they stated, and advertised. The sales manager couldn't even do my husband the decency of coming out of his office to discuss after my husband had flown out there with intentions to drive over a thousand miles home. Mike was our salesperson, who was either misinformed or intentionally deceiving, and Andy was the salesman who said he was with a client while my husband waited for 40 minutes outside his office and could clearly see he wasn't with anyone. So disappointing. We would have still purchased if any amount of recognition of our concerns had been made

I've bought three cars from this place but probably will avoid it in the future. It's hit or miss. I think most of their cars come from auction. One car ran like a beast. One was a piece of crap that they really didn't stand behind. The other one I'm still driving and has been okay, but a couple months after I got it home three tires, which all had good tread, when flat because it had been sitting in a parking lot so long it rotted the tires. Three at the same time. So plan to do your own due diligence. Further, it can get shady in the closing depending upon the manager with whom you are dealing. Best to be prepared to walk away and go across the street. Good luck.

Steve, this is Matt the manager with Hi Lo. I am sorry to hear you had an issue with your tires losing air simultaneously. I don't believe you have spoken to me directly about this issue nor has it been brought to my attention. Every vehicle we sell comes MD Inspected. Please give me a call at 301-663-4456 to discuss this.

Do not buy from this place. Greg was helpful and personable but whoever runs this place is a con artist at best. Sold a van with broken brake light that failed inspection. Would think that they'd cover the $500 charge to rewire and replace? Nope. Catalytic converter broken a couple months later? Not covered by their warranty. Radiator has a leak and needs to be replaced for $1400? Yeah they won't help you at all there either. There warranty is useless and will fix up a car to point that it can fool a consumer, only for it to fall apart on them after 1000 miles. Would not recommend working with Matt or this shady business.

Hi Lo has been one of the absolute worst car buying...
Hi Lo has been one of the absolute worst car buying experiences I have ever lived through. I felt that I would have some kind of "advantage" to buying here because I had a friend who was in sales who worked there at the time. How wrong my presumption ended up being. I went to the lot having already done research, talked to my internal contact about available cars and essentially came there knowing what I wanted. The sales person I ended up working with was Katie, a young and quite obviously green sales rep. She was basic, not overly friendly, even coming off a tad apathetic like she did not care whether I was content or having a positive experience. As I was about to get in my newly purchased vehicle to drive off, I was unable to start the car with the key fob given to me. With confusion, I went back inside to Craig the general manager and asked for some assistance in starting the car I just bought. Within moments it was concluded that one of the 2 key fobs that come with the car was dead or broken. It simply would not work. Craig assured me all was well- "call us and we will take care of that for you no problem!". I was sure to confirm that it would be at no cost to me- considering I bought the car with the supposition that the key fobs would be in working order. From that first week on, until I gave up contact about 3 months ago (a span of 6 months) I called at first weekly, then as time went on every few weeks, to try and "set an appointment up" with their service center to fix the faulty/broken fob they sold me. The first two or thee months, every call I made was deferred with a "okay great! We will call you back to confirm an appt with our technician Jeff!" and that confirmation call would never come. I would start the next call with "Hey , it's me again! I need Jeff to fix my Fob!" , and that would always be met with a confused, apathetic response of "wow, that's weird. We will do our best to fix that"- and cue the same looping cycle to restart. Once I received this dismissive comeback about 15 times, I finally said "okay, give me Jeff's number. I cannot be told to wait for you to make the appointment for me anymore" to which Hi Lo told me "Jeff is actually a 3rd party contractor! So unfortunately that's not how it happens, we gave your info to Jeff and now you must wait for him to reach out to you". So, after all that time, I finally figured out what was actually going on. Hi Lo didn't feel like it was their job to follow up on this matter- they simply kicked the can out of their yard and exclaimed "not our problem anymore! sorry!". It was then I could tell- Hi Lo was actively avoiding fixing the broken fob they sold me. Within the first month of owning the car, I also experienced a popped tired which was not to the fault of Hi Lo whatsoever, but that experience led me to needing to interact with their service center (TIRE PROS OF FREDERICK). When I went to pick the car up after the tire being changed (it could not be patched so I required a new tire) I was informed by Tire Pros that I would be charged the full cost of the repair, even though I had conversations with Craig the GM of HiLo who had assured me Hi Lo would cover the costs. When I got Craig on the phone , he immediately attempted to renege his initial offer, claiming that the repair ended up being far more costly than he anticipated (he thought he would be covering a $20 patch, not a "new tire"). I called him out in the moment, exasperated that I would be lied to in such a manner, to which Craig easily manipulated into "well, I am going to be the nice guy here and go ahead and pay for it, but that's just because I'm a nice guy! Remember, I don't HAVE to do ANYTHING for you! I am only doing it because I am a nice guy!" the fact that he responded in such an incredibly defensive and awkward manner should've been enough for me to see a Red Flag then and there. A few days later, a random look in my trunk made me realize something- When Tire Pros serviced my car to fix the tire pop, they TOOK THE SPARE OUT OF THE TRUNK AND USED IT AS THE REPLACEMENT. And so, I no longer had a "spare" anymore, and it dawned on me that Craig and Tire Pros completely manipulated me into thinking they were doing me a "favor" by not charging me for a "new tire", when in reality all they did was mount my spare for me. Wow. When I found this out, I called Craig to confront him on the very shady thing I had discovered. This was the first and last time I ever spoke to him on the phone- once I said my peace and shared my opinion that he was intentionally manipulating me due to my perceived ignorance- he absolutely blew up on me. I have NEVER been verbally accosted in such a manner by a business manager. He called me a "dumb xxxxx", hurled expletives- He even laughed "HA! Good luck trying to return the car back to us- AINT NEVER GONNA HAPPEN! You're screwed! Won't ever happen! Nice try!". To this day I can't believe I was treated like that. I've noticed that not all review sites seem to be created equally, so to speak. As a resident of Frederick, I know that word-of-mouth tactics employ a larges sales pipeline for Hi Lo, and with that being said, it's concerning to me that there are review sites that appear to only display positive reviews (many of which read strangely vague and disingenuous, or simply naïve.) Since my initial interactions with Hi Lo, I've had many conversations with other Frederick community members who share my sentiment. In fact, it's been difficult to find people who actually walked away happy from their exhange with this business (the few I know that say they did are quick to mention it wasn't ALL great, but that they were simply not picky, or they weren't particularly sensitive to the things that Hi Lo got wrong...Lucky them!!). Overall, it's IMPERATIVE to do your research into reviews and their hosting sites just as much as the logistics to car buying. Best of luck to you, reader. But as always, CAVEAT EMPTOR (and xxx Grano Salis). Cheers!

xxxxxxx employees and management.
They once mailed a bunch of lottery tickets out. I won some money from one and then I go there and they proceed to sit me down and treat me like a child and be rude to me because apparently even though it said I won, I didn't have the correct id code on the back so I didn't really win anything. I was angry they tricked people into thinking they won money, and waste their time to go to their xxxxty dealership. I wasn't the only one they tricked too, there were other people there, and they still had the audacity to treat me like xxxx in front of everyone. Disgusting employees and business practices.

Complaint
I would walk before buying another vehicle from this lot. I went down on a weekday evening to pick up the truck I bought. It was storming and hard to get a real good visual on the vehicle(mistake #1) The salesman Katie told me on the phone that she would have the $995 on the vehicle price removed for being a veteran. That didn't happen(mistake#2). The truck runs great but it was never washed and smelled horrible like cigarettes. I washed promised it would be detailed. (Mistake#3) I was promised a task of gas. Not even a quarter tank (mistake #4) Over the next week or 2 I found damage on the passenger side of the vehicle. There was damage to the passenger side lower quarter panel that I hadn't noticed. (My mistake) however I was told there wasn't any damage on the phone prior to buying. (My mistake) So I dealt with Mr. Craig Grove on the phone and I got him an estimate there was $800 for a repair he gave me at $250 check and had me sign a piece of paper which I did. Then I noticed that the 2 doors had been damaged and painted over poorly and that they painted over the seals on the door handles and that the running board had dents on the trim down the whole passenger side. It was obvious the vehicle was side swiped and cheaply repaired. And they knew this because they replaced the running board motor at their shop. But still gave me a carfax starting no known accidents.
