Just Say No
We own a 2016 Soul. It only had 73000 miles on it and we were told today that we either need a new car or a new engine. We had skipped one oil change and were told that is the reason. I called a local mechanic and was told that there was a recall on this engine and that we should avoid the dealership and contact the company directly. Our 1998 Chevy Cavalier has 170000 miles on it and is going strong. Moral of the story. Never buying a Kia again. Dealership will push you to buy a new car every time You come in for service

Service failed- once again
This is the second time in a year that I have taken a Kia vehicle into Shawnee Mission Kia just to come home with nothing fixed. Last year Luke in the service department was my rep and 2 different times I took the same car in to be seen for the same issue, yielded 2 different diagnostics. The first was for a blown head gasket in which he said I would need to pay for a longer diagnostic to prove that was the case. I didn’t have the money then so I opted to return at a later time. A few months later, after the car sat the entire time because it wouldn’t start, they concluded that the engine was blown after less than an hour with no additional diagnostic needed. Both times I was persuaded to try and upgrade my car and Luke informed my salesman of the “issues” with my car to try and help the sale, the one I had didn’t run anyway so that was a viable option but the timing wasn’t right. Now today, a year later, I take my Kia Sedona (different vehicle than previous) in to have spark plugs changed. I still was trying to be persuaded to upgrade, which wasn’t an issue as the salesman Justin was not pushy with me. However, James in the service department was my rep today and relayed to Justin that my vehicle wouldn’t start, to try and help the sale. I have had sporadic times in the past year where this model would not start although through extensive research it has been shown that it is a problem with the model and not typically the starter or anything else. So after James called to inquire about my vehicle not starting I let him know how to get it start and they went to “try”. He calls back to inform me that the vehicle would not start and it needed a new starter which was another $500, but by this time it was an hour away from my estimated pick up time and being a single mom with 3 kids, I had to have my vehicle back. So I let him know I would just be in to pick it up. When I arrived, James was anything but pleasant (mostly silent treatment) and returned my keys to me. I went and started my car and left. No problems starting. No tricks needed to start it. It just started and I left. I am overall displeased with my experience in the past year with Kia. I hope that this is a coincidence that a “sale” was more important than fixing my car which I scheduled service to be done on. It is hard enough to schedule time to take my vehicle in to be fixed but then to have to leave without anything being resolved is even worse.
