The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV gets all the same improvements as the 2022 Outlander, along with better fuel economy.

The 2023 Outlander PHEV benefits from the same interior upgrades that made its gas-engine sibling much more competitive, while its plug-in hybrid powertrain adds quickness, all-electric range, heft and cost.

The 2023 Outlander PHEV offers 38 miles of all-electric range from its 350-volt, 20-kWh lithium-ion battery pack — 14 more miles than the previous model.

Mitsubishi has made some upgrades to the Outlander PHEV for 2021. The changes warrant a retest of the outgoing SUV to see what impact they’ve had on its all-electric range.

In addition to the upgraded S-AWC system, Mitsubishi says the 2022 Outlander PHEV will benefit from further motor output improvements, increased battery capacity and improved driving range.

Mitsubishi is still selling cars in the U.S. and is planning updates to its SUV-heavy lineup in 2021.

Approximately 177,000 Mitsubishi Outlander SUVs and Outlander PHEV SUVs are being recalled for their seat belt buckles.
