Explore the 2004 Acura RL

Classic Style,+Cheap Gas/Maintenance, do maintain.

This was the only car that-ever broke down on Me during a Road-Test (alternator-therefore, battery failure). However, This was the car-that got Me to collect 'Guide De L'Auto' books, for-It was described-as some-kind of Underdog (flagship Model with a-mere V6?)...and I can identify with the Underdog. CAA had it towed to the garage-where It was sceduled to be inspected. Needed-besides what the problems -already were, plus a-little minor-This and That, and I added-to install a new fan-belt, please? And I scheduled a Tranny Oil Change, for when my Mechanic receives the proper Honda Oil. Nice and quiet, I can get-just under 8l/100km on the highway, but the Kickdown's always there-when I needed It. I can-only sense the car shifting gears, but- through the sound of the Engine. Smooth Bugger! Car corners! It may have been 'bashful-looking when new, but Today, RL looked more-and more distinguished, among others at our parking-lot, over Time. The negative aspect (and-This is only-by Personal Experience): -There's a high-pitched 'whine', from-around the windshield, when I reach 100 km/h. -It has a slow leak in the Electric System, but installed a battery 'Kill-Switch', for-when car's not in use. -The Lid to the storage compartment on the Center Console, tends to open-whenever It wants-to. I guess the Latch-on Mine has-all but worn-out... -Never-in my Life, have I-ever paid $700-for a new muffler, but-That was to be expected with a car-like This. -Now, I'm in search for a new Transmission 'Ball'-that broke-off in my hand, not-two days-ago, Lol...

Would Buy Today If They Made This Car Again

I got mine new. It now has 235,000 miles on it. No major problems. I am about ready to replace. If they made this same car today I would buy it.

Last of a timeless design

Not exactly sure why the TL got all of the attention, but I think the RL has the nicer lines of this era. Fit and finish is good. Materials used in the interior hold up well even after 15 years. No shakes, rattles, or chirps. The 3.5 liter V6 is no beast but is suffix for what the car is. Acura might have done better with this model if a SH and S-type trim were available for this generation. Some folks want a flagship with the very best the brand has to offer. Still even lacking all wheel drive and probably what would have amounted to an extra 50 ponies wasn’t enough to prevent me from taking a serious look at owning one. Some folks compare the RL to the highly acclaimed Lexus LS line of the time. In my humble opinion they are two very different animals. Lexus redefined what luxury would become for all auto manufacturers both domestically and abroad. To me, Acura did a better job on the lines of the car, even if it didn’t come close to the amenities or power of the LS. As for reliability, Acura/Honda has more than proven their ability to produce engines and transmissions that will go well over the 300k mark on the odometer if not abused, as examples of such a claim can be found just about everywhere.

Car was so good to me I bought it again!

I first bought my 04 3.5RL in 2008 with 55K on it, it now has 210K in 2017 and keeps moving like the first day I bought it. Normal maintenance as expected, but I love this car and hopefully buying another 04 3.5RL with 51K very soon.

My first car with the expected features.

It is a great vehicle. So take care of it the right way. Meaning the manufactured way of maintaining it.

Best Car I Have Ever Owned

Bought my 2004 with 35k miles on it and now have 160k. This car is a true classic and has never given me a single issue. Looks and drives like new. By far the best car I have ever owned. I will keep it forever :)

150K and still a new car

Whomever gets this car next is getting a steal. It's 10 years old and has 150,000 miles, and it drives like a new car. We have always done suggested maintenance. The only mechanical problem has been a sticky throttle. I feel we could easily put another 100K on this car with no problems at all. It's not like the old days when cars fell apart approaching 100K. This guy will run forever.
