TL pretty good

I recently purchased a 2004 Acura TL in order to get better gas mileage, and to get better traction in snow situations with front wheel drive. The car does both things well. It gets about 25 to 26 MPG in city and highway mixed. The car has good front wheel drive traction. The car is attractive, comfortable and dependable. I give it 4 of 5 stars. If the car either was faster, and got better mileage and had edgier styling, it would get 5 stars from me. If it were larger and better styled, but had the same performance and gas mileage, then it would also get 5 stars from me. Pretty good car.

Longtime TL Owner

I have an 04 TL Technology package that I purchased in 06. I knew the previous owner (my father, actually) and it was babied. I bought the car from him when his lease ran up around 45k miles and performed all of the regular maintenance. I really enjoy a few things about it - it looks great, the handling is pretty good and it's got good horsepower. All in all the car is great... besides a few big issues. I don't know if I got a lemon or what but this car has been nothing but problems in the last 3-4 years. Here's the list of what's gone wrong: - BAD ECU (Engine computer) in 2007 (replaced under emissions warranty) - 2x BAD Gas Pedal Potentiameter (sp?) in 2008 (replaced under emissions warranty but had to pay for a tow) - BAD Starter in 2009 ($600 terrible buzzing in radio after this service that they can't fix) - BAD Transmission in early 2010 (fixed under previous model's recall but still cost $2k) - BAD Starter in mid 2010 ($under warranty+tow+lost day of work) - Valve chatter (They can't figure it out) - BAD driver's side headlight in mid-2010 ($1000) - BAD Starter in early 2011 ($600+tow+lost day of work) - BAD Passenger side headlight in early 2011 ($1000) - I'm pretty sure the transmission is going to fail again soon. It's doing the same weird downshifting that it did before it failed the last time. Be prepared to pay out the NOSE for repairs when this car runs out of warranty. I have come to the conclusion that Acura parts are no better than Kia's. They just have a fancy emblem on them and an inflated price tag. Beware if you are buying a used Acura TL with more than 50,000 miles: you will probably experience some of these same repairs! In fact, it is likely that the person that traded in the car was faced with the same repairs and just decided to throw in the hat and get something else; much like I am prepared to do. It was nice not having a car payment but I need reliability and that is something this car does not offer.

Best car for the money

This is an amazing car. Beautiful inside out, very reliable, at a much better price than other luxury vehicles. It also maintains valu over time like no other. Best car I've ever had.

All around performer

My 5th vehicle and the Acura TL does everything very well. Engine is strong when you need it but docile in everyday driving. The thing I like best about the TL is how it handles well for a full-size sedan, comfortable seats, and the clean exterior styling. Obviously, the reliability is also a huge plus. I have 70K miles on her now and not 1 single substantial repair. Do the maintenance these vehicles should hold together for 200K easily. I feel the Acura TL from this generation looks unlike any other Honda or Acura and dare I say it looks a bit Italianesque.. I enjoy mine!

Love the 6 speed Manual- Very Quick

The only one complaint that i have is the front wheel drive. This car would be so much better if it was all-wheel drive which i think Acura has added in more recent years. You'll love this car... :)

TL is the car to own

Before I bought the TL, I owned an Acura Legend. The Legend ended up with 195,000 miles and I was still able to sell it to a happy owner. Now with the newer TL (bought a used 2004), the upgrades are awesome and the power is crisp. Handling is also improved to more expensive style car. The used price was great for its value too. I have owned it for 6 months and love this car. It?s definitely a great buy.

Long Term TL Experience

I have owned my '04 TL for four years. It is now 6 years old with 68K miles. After owning many other cars (including other Honda products), this was my first Acura. I recommend this car to anyone who enjoys driving and wants a vehicle that is reliable and good looking. I have had no problems with this car in the four years I have owned it and the 40K miles I have driven it. With the Navy blue paint and Camel interior, I still get people asking me at stop lights if it is a new car. So if you want a car with the modern technology found in new cars but at a fraction of the new car price, look for a cleam TL.
