Vehicle Overview

The low-slung two-seat Aston Martin V8 Vantage sports car is powered by a normally aspirated V-8 that makes 420 horsepower. It looks much like Aston Martin’s larger DB9 and is available as a hardtop coupe or convertible. Last year, Aston launched N420 versions of the V8 Vantage that featured carbon fiber side strakes, front splitter and diffuser, graphite tailpipe finishers, a sport suspension, unique exhaust system and unique interior trim. The N420 name was inspired by Aston Martin’s racing efforts at the Nurburgring. Competitors include the Audi R8 and Porsche 911.

The V12 Vantage is covered separately in the Cars.com Research section.

New for 2012
A high-performance 430-horsepower V8 Vantage S model, available as either a coupe or convertible, debuts for 2012. All Aston Martin V8 Vantages are available with a new Garmin-based navigation system. Brake calipers can be finished in red, gray or yellow.

(Skip to details on the: V8 Vantage S)

Exterior
The V8 Vantage’s frame replaces welding with advanced adhesives for better vibration damping, and aluminum and magnesium components reduce weight throughout the chassis. Exterior features include:

  • Twin-bezel headlamps flank Aston Martin’s trapezoidal grille
  • Flared front fenders are trailed by inset side vents, and all lines flow rearward to the V8 Vantage’s twin-bar taillamp
  • Integrated deck lid spoiler and twin exhaust pipes
  • Convertible has a fabric top that stows beneath a metal tonneau cover
  • 19-inch wheels
  • Optional chrome grille
  • Optional painted brake calipers

Interior
A dizzying array of interior choices means each V8 Vantage can be personalized by its buyer. Premium materials line the aluminum-trimmed dashboard, which includes a ringed engine-start button above the radio controls. Interior features include:

  • 10-way power seats feature twin lumbar adjustment and memory function
  • Optional heated front seats
  • MP3 jack
  • Information screen can display Russian, Chinese and Greek
  • Optional Bluetooth connectivity
  • Optional Garmin-based navigation system
  • Optional satellite radio
  • Analog clock, stitched dashboard seams and machined instrument dials are among the upscale touches

Under the Hood
The 4.7-liter V-8 generates 420 hp. Its aluminum construction uses a dry-sump lubrication system that eliminates the oil pan and allows the engine to sit lower to the ground, thereby lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity. Mechanical features include:

  • Standard rear-mounted six-speed manual transmission or available six-speed automated manual with paddle shifters
  • Coupe can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds
  • Aston claims top speed is 180 mph

Safety
Safety features include:

  • Antilock brakes
  • Traction control
  • Electronic stability system
  • Side-impact airbags are standard; seats incorporate head-protection airbags

V8 Vantage S
Influenced by Aston Martin’s GT4 racecar, the V8 Vantage S is designed to offer greater dynamic capability compared with the regular model. Offered as a coupe or roadster, the car shares its 4.7-liter V-8 with the V8 Vantage, but the engine has been tuned to produce 430 hp and 361 pounds-feet of torque. A new seven-speed automated manual transmission, controlled by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, is the only transmission available. Pushing the standard Sport button quickens gear changes, increases throttle response and opens bypass valves in the exhaust system.

The V8 Vantage S features new springs and dampers, a quicker steering ratio and larger front brakes. The V8 Vantage S also has unique stability system tuning.

Exterior enhancements include new bumpers, a carbon fiber front splitter and wide side sills. Nineteen-inch wheels are standard. Back to top

  • There is a reason James Bond drives Astons!

This car is incredible. It's for performance and is incredibly sexy. It's stock sound is amazing. Handles in a high performance, but luxurious way. Not comfy on long road trips. This is not designed for the track. Go Porsche if that's why you want one. British sound systems are front oriented, even though the B&O system is state of the art. Major maintenance is high, but normal maintenance is reasonable for a sports car. The E brake is a booger. Bought this because it was my dream car. It is what I wanted <3

You can feel the hand built quality in this car. I have owned a ton of 911's, they are very nice. But the Aston is really like a hand made tailored suit, it really is!

  • Vantage - A fantastic Sportscar

It is hard to find a good and true review of Aston Martin, it is either clients complain about some breaks squeaking or leaving negative feedback for some car dealer in Southern California, just because they don't understand the cars or the brand. This is my second Aston, and the newer models are just long leap forward from the 06 and 07 models, coming from a Porsche 911 S base to an Aston Martin is a hard move, but after giving the Aston brand another chance i have truly started to love the car. It may not be perfect but is the qualities of the brand that is inherent in every Aston Martin. You can truly feel that these cars are hand-made, the engine and gear box are put together in a way that you can sense the evolutionary progress on these cars. You read car reviews from cars&Driver and Motortrend claiming that there is a power-loss on the sport-shift clutch. I can assure you that those folks are copywriters and have no glue about what they write. Even if you compare this to a Manuel clutch you can't even shift that quickly. Any model from 09 has a much better clutch that is much more responsive, the horsepower of the 420 engine also makes a huge difference very noticeable on the acceleration. The clutch still engages the driving experience and makes you still work with the car. It is a truly engaging driving experience. The stiffer suspension on the 09 models and up, are absolutely noticeable, I have not driven the sport-pack version, but I would be pretty sure it feels like driving 911 on S mode the whole time, which is a TAP to hard on the road. The Vantage performs fantastic on the highway, it is certainly a daily commuter car very suitable for daily city driving. The 08 and 07 models are a bit too soft on the road there is a big difference on the suspension starting on the 09 models. Some car review mentioned missing options, the base models come with everything you need. You do not need any rear-view camera, or some hard disc to store more songs. Hello, this is an Aston Martin Sports Car not some city car with lots of button. The only button you need is the up and down ships, the Lights on or off that is pretty much it. Nav you only use when you get lost. So if you have ever thought about Aston Martin I would certain recommend it. This is one of the only few sport car companies that is still small and nimble,we never know what will happen in the future once more models starts to roll out and things become more main stream. So please drive the Aston Martin hard, these are sports car meant to be driven not meant to be polished in the garage everyday, it does not do any good.
