Used car purchase initial thoughts

The car is well appointed and has been cared for well by the previous owner. I expect it will meet my next my needs for a very reasonable investment.

Well built, Nice looking, Comfortable, Economical

I'm a tall guy. Very roomy. The 3.4 V6 is quiet, yet powerful. Back seat it very spacious and so is the cargo area of the car. Transmission is so smooth you barely feel the vehicle up shift even with quick starts. Pulls the mountains in my area well and holds back well on downward hills. Nice well rounded sporty but classy car for families, couples, singles and pets.

Never had a vehicle deemed "unfixable" before

It's a decent little truck with a terribly designed interior; cup holders under the center console, one power outlet in the front that is also located beneath the center console, hard-edged stretch pockets next to your legs, fold down seats that don't fold down enough to render the space usuable. But the major problem with this vehicle has to do with the way the transmission and engine work together. If I attempt to accelerate quickly with this vehicle, from any speed, the engine bogs down (4000rpms is the killer, it slows, will not accelerate, you must remove your foot from the accelerator and wait a second and then slowly depress to get the engine to re-engage). 4000 RPMs means acceleration failure. So, in an emergency where I need to get my vehicle out of the way, this vehicle will not only fail to accelerate, it essentially stops in place at the moment I need it to do the exact opposite. Before you say, it's the rev-limiter-O2-sensor-fuel-filter-timing-belt-shift-solenoid-everything-else-etc, save your breath, been there, done that. I have had every sensor and system on this vehicle checked and rechecked by home mechanics to local mechanics to national mechanic shops to the dealerships: all of them see and experience the easily reproduced problem and none of them can fix it. All of them are certain that if I replace the engine AND transmission, the problem will end...but none of them can explain why. Go online and you will see many people complaining about this issue, so, to me, that means a manufacturing defect. I can not recommend an Equinox of any year. Further, this problem is so serious that I cannot recommend a Chevrolet of any year as well.

Falling apart daily

"JD Powers most reliable car"...what a joke! My car only has 114k miles and something breaks on it everyday. Driver's door won't open from the inside, tire monitors not working, cup holders falling off. I know these seem like little things, but they represent a bigger picture.

Good truck, good mixture of reliability and power.

Good truck, good mixture of reliability and power. I love the Sport trim's styling and the extra power that it has. The '08 is also the perfect size. It feels like a truck when you drive it and can haul quite a bit in the back. However, it would have been nice to have a trailer hitch for towing. One thing I would have changed is the center console, we didn't care for the design. The whole arm rest console is raised up so there's just a giant open space underneath it. Also, the most accessible cup holders are fold out and they have to be folded away in order to use the e-brake. There's one cup holder close to the floor board but it's hard to reach it when driving.

Chevy Equnix 2008 & 2006

Great vehicle! Performance, styling, reliability, I never had an issue. I had a 2006 before my 2008 as it was basically the same vehicle as the kept body style for those couple years. Only negative would be the gas mileage. Besides that, no complaints!
