This is an awful car
The 2009 Malibu LS is my first car. I still currently own it, bought it at 55k and it’s currently approaching 96k. For 2 years, this car was nice. No problems at all. Drove like a caddy and everything worked. Then the problems started happening. Neither of my door speakers work anymore, which is apparently very common. My drivers side rear TPMS sensor will not come back online no matter what is done, the dealer basically told me it is dead permanently. This causes a message to come up every time the car is started “SVC TIRE MONITOR” and the TPMS light is perpetually on. The TC is god awful, but I know that’s the case in many cars. It caused me to go off the road during one of the last snowstorms we had and as a result there is a very audible exhaust leak. The rear dome brake light does not work either. This was a recall on the car and when I took it to the dealer to get it fixed, nothing changed. And finally, I don’t know if it has something to do with our recent well below freezing temps or what, but occasionally when I drive the odometer goes up and down continuously. I can’t get up to speed for my commute up the highway every day. This car is such a lemon, I will never buy another Chevy vehicle again. 2/5 just because it held up for 2 years without issue.

Bought at 86k and drove cross country.
This car has surpassed my expectations. I just returned from nearly 7 years abroad and had to buy a car. Suffice it to say I was nervous. I wound up paying more than I budgeted for this car because from the test drive onward I was really happy with the car. The styling even in 2019 holds up. Older cars look so dated, but these lines still hold up. I get lots of compliments and disbelief that it’s and ‘09. The interior is comfortable and the cabin has enough space for four adults but the back seat can be cramped for really large people. This 2LT model is missing the ultra-elegant Ltz interior and feels plasticky, but the heated seats are an excellent bonus. My car has the SS 18” wheels with Michelin X-types and traction control, and I and have had no trouble in Mid-Atlantic slush this winter. I can switch to manual paddle shift gears for added control. The 3.6L pushrod V6 is the reliable powerhouse it’s always been. Love the power on demand and smooth transmission. Two adults and 300 pounds of gear, driving cross country and averaged 30.7 mpg the whole way. With AC on there is a noticeable lag for sure. Currently in approximately 30 miles per day of mixed driving I get 24.4 mpg. Don’t try driving this car like a sports coupe and it won’t disappoint you as a heavy, smooth-riding mid size sedan would in any case where pinhead cornering and performance matters most. The first owner did what was needed and I’ve only done full fluids changes and tire rotations. Loving this ride.

Safety recall abandoned
I understand there was a recall on the power steering of the 2009 Chevy Malibu, But only certain months of that year? So, even tho, my car has put me at deaths door several times, for the same issue...this SAFETY recall doesn’t apply to me? How is that? I’m driving home from school, and suddenly I can’t get into any other lane and am stuck with no steering whatsoever. It will soon become like what they say, is manual power steering...but what about when it freezes.... at that point, I have NO STEERING. I want my car fixed. I’m not unreasonable, I understand maintenance and repairs are my issue.... but a KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE...... This is beyond my comprehension. What if your months and dates are off by any median of error? Then, it applies to my car, but I’m afraid, until I am a nurse, then can afford another car, I will be forced to deal with your KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE. I want this documented, so in the event of my death, my children know I tried. And, the father of my children cannot blame me for driving an unsafe car. As a student, I simply cannot afford a defect. Maintenance is the best I can do?

Reliable car
Car is very reliable, but I just recently had my fourth child so now I need something with more room. I’m looking for something with a third row to be exact so that it will be big enough for me and my husband and kids when we want to take family trips.

Had for over three years
This car has costed me more than I?ve paid for it. Every time the light goes out they have to completely take off the bumper which costs you more.
