A few minor design issues but overall bulletproof

GM made millions of these also called a Sierra in GMC nameplate. The legendary small block 5.3 is a great engine and has the history to back it up. While others have tried, no one can dispute that when all things are considered, this engine is better than anything from Japan or Detroit. That being said, I still wonder why the GM engineers still have trouble with exhaust manifolds/gaskets, knock sensors, and coolant leaks. Equally as odd is why they can't seem to make a wheel bearing, window motor, door switch or brake rotor last more than 60K while the power-train can go on forever! The vehicle drives accurately, brakes well, and feels stable. Seating is adequate and the controls are logical and placed well. No hunting for the right knob and no pulling up a menu to change the radio station! (yes, some ask you to do that) Maintenance is simple and cheap. Parts readily available and finding aftermarket parts and customization is endless. I've had several including one with 250,000 miles and still no sign of quitting.

Wow! Owned about 15 vechiles. This was the worst

Bought it brand new, chevy z71, extended cab. < 100 miles on it. It was the cowboy Cadillac. It had a nice comfortable interior. You'll need it, b/c you will be sitting on the side of the road a lot. From electrical to wind noise to water leaking during a rain to expensive engine & transmission problems. I couldn't keep it out of the shop. At 36,000 miles I had enough. It was such a terrible automobile I am still aggravated almost 20 years later. I owned a ford up until the chevy. I was used to problems. But this truck took it to a whole new level. *never 4x4 it up, stock street tires, no lift, no programer*

Great truck.. if you can prevent rust

My father and I have both owned the extended cab 4x4 versions of these. He worked his hard and never let him down for almost 175k miles. I bought my truck used with 139k miles. It appeared to be pretty clean but found out it was mostly the work of a bondo magician. But, the truck itself is been good mechanically to me minus some rust repairs (rockers, lines, gas tank straps, etc) and a transfer case. Engine and tranny are still strong at 161k and I don't think they were ever touched. Extremely comfortable and does pretty decent off-road and does great on road. Only complaint with performance is that the 4 speed tranny seems to always be searching for gears while towing a loaded 14ft trailer, but for a 1/2 ton, its not bad. Its a great looking and performing truck for someone who is looking for truck that can tow and haul on the weekends but doesn't break the bank on day to day commutes.

Best truck I?ve owned.

Excellent performance for only being a 1500. 5.4 v8 can handle about anything; bed full of trees, gravel/dirt load, or even 4 wheeling over mountains. Enterior has plenty of room and I?m fortunate enough to get to enjoy all power interior and heated seats.

Best family car for town, trips, & yes soccer

Great SUV for my work & to take family on around town trips & to go to La to Disneyland. Yes, like al cars after now 300+ thousand miles she is a strong car just that I can't afford the new transmisson she needs & deserves. This is a great car. She just needs a new owner to take her & give her the TLC A mechanic can give her.
