November 12th 2024, I bought my Dodge Dakota SXT 3.
November 12th 2024, I bought my Dodge Dakota SXT 3.7 L, automatic 2x4 from the original owner, it was a commuter truck from Fredericksburg Virginia to DC I picked it up with 258,000 / Now 290k , It's been a great truck for what I need. I'd like to find a machinist and get the heads redone. The bottom end should be pretty good but I'll give it a good look through when I have the funds. Just keep up with simple maintenance especially with suspension and steering parts don't let things go too long cost more money. That has been my experience with many vehicles. NO doubt, I do like this DAK!

2002 Dodge Dakota
Best used truck I've owned. Makes the 3 rd Dakota I've owned. 1st pre-owned. Daily driver still today. Has plenty of power and rides great. And handles on the road awesome. And with the 4.7 I pull several different types of trailers.

Reliable Truck with minor flaws.
I bought my 2004 Dodge Dakota brand new. I have over 230k miles on it. My biggest issue with it is the transmission. I was just over 100k when it went out. I've since gone through another, that one being a "rebuilt", but I suspect it was just taken from the junk yard. My current one was rebuilt by a true old-school transmission specialist that has more miles on it than the original. I've had some engine issues of late. But overall I've been pretty satisfied with my truck. Paint is coming off the hood, but that's minor to me with respect to it's age. Back to the transmission. The guy who did my good rebuild said the tranny in the '04 isn't really good for pulling and that it's the same one they use in the Caravan. I believe him. Oh, and gas milage could be better. I average 17 MPG which isn't bad for a 20 year old truck. Wishing though it go closer to 20+

This 2004 is my 6th Dakota since my 2008..had a Jeep Cherokee b4..was talking w sales rep while waiting for Jeep being serviced..he said they had a Dakota traded in by a 65 yr old w 40kmi he’d swap me for $350..drove that for 250k b4 I decided to replace it..regular maintenance only…replaced the others @ 125k +/-:::bought my 2004 in 2008 figuring it’s my last (I’m now 81) has 116k mi..no mech prblms..now selling it as I am a disabled vet & now using a walker..have to break it down & pull it across my lap ea time I go somewhere…Dakota was my 1st Dodge truck loved it- bought 5 more..too bad they decided to discontinue them in 2011..will replace this one with a decent used one with the mini suicide doors so I can toss my walker in the rear if I can …am pleased to recommend Dakota pick ups to others..all I had were V6 RWD trucks

Best Truck Ever Owned!
I bought my 2004 Dakota Club Cab SLT 4.7 Automatic in 2008 from a Dodge dealership used car lot. I love this truck. I've always owned mini/mid sized trucks. Datsun,Nissan,Ford Ranger, and this Dakota is the best. The comfort, drivabilty is superior. The rack and pinion steering, 4 wheel disc brakes, limited slip differential, 3.92 gears all contribute to the driving experience. I didn't know this until a few years after owning, but these trucks are classified as 3/4 ton. They have the highest towing capacity 6440 lbs. They have separate trailer circuitry independent from truck lighting. It's own trailer light fuses. The only extended cab with forward faceing rear seats with shoulder restraints. I have about 150,000 it's now 1/7/2023.

Reliable and built to last.
2004 3.7 2wd Club Cab 265,000 miles, daily driver, original owner. I had it undercoated and despite all the Michigan winters, there is very little rust. I pull my Searay 250 Sundancer to the marina and back each year and it does a fine job. I have a limited slip differential which helps in snow and rain. MPG is 17 to 19 no matter how you drive. Currently on the 2nd set of spark plugs and 2nd muffler/tail pipe. Changed upper and lower ball joints and engine valve lifters 225k. Everything, except brakes, tires, battery, radiator, hoses and belt, is original. The AC still works great. She still has plenty of power and has never let me down. I've had many vehicles throughout the years and this one is without a doubt the most durable and reliable I've owned.

Best truck ever, IMO
I had a 2004 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 with the 4.7 V8. I loved it, while the gas mileage was not great it was rock solid. Only thing I had go wrong was the transfer case went out on it.

Dodge dakota 4.7 V8
Overall this truck is solid by 2022 standards. The dakota is very reliable and comfortable and easy to work on. Sometimes my truck has its crank position sensor wear out fast, but it's not that bad. The 4.7 still has power and the 5 speed auto is still reliable for a dodge. Gas mileage can be a issue, but if you drive it nice you can get about 16 in the city. Overall, a solid truck.
