Good choice in this price range

Well built. Smooth transmission. Trans sounds like it revs up needlessly on rare occasions. Back hatch is unusually heavy to lift and should have better hydraulics.

Sweet spot of Style, Performance, Comfort & Price

Bought the 2008 Edge SEL 2 months ago and have already logged over 6000 miles. The selling points were the roominess and comfort of the cabin; the quiet but responsive ride, the vista roof and Sync (California Sun & Sync package). This vehicle really delivers on all counts. It's built solidly. Smooth, quiet ride. Looks awesome (though I wish the color choices were better -- I went with Ice Blue, which is very similar to a popular BMW color; black and grey were the only other colors that interested me). Sync is an incredible feature -- control your iPod by talking to it. Voice command works great 98% of the time, but that last 2% when it keeps missing what you're looking for can be a real pain. This is usually caused by bad metadata in the track info for the song or playlist you want -- but you can't revert to the iPod's touch pad while it's hooked up to the car. But the car is SOOO much more than Sync (obviously), and is a real pleasure to drive. Two safety notes -- 1) it can have a bit of a pull to the right on sudden acceleration. Nothing major, but enthusiasts will notice. 2) Blind spot on driver's side can be an issue. This is a much bigger vehicle than it looks in pictures. Especially when learning how it drives, you'll want to be extra careful about checking mirrors and over the shoulder when changing lanes. Highly recommend as both an SUV and a minivan replacement.

I tried them all - Ford Edge won out

Smooth ride, fairly good to great pick-up, excellent styling and comfort. My initial reasons for looking at the Edge were for the Vista roof and for the fact we already have four Fords in the family and love them all. The Cadillac SRX also had a similar vista-roof but the higher price and lower curb appeal turned me away. There are a plethora of features on this car that I still have yet to master, such as the SYNC, Navigation system, and voice activation. I bought the car three days ago and so far it has far exceeded my expectations. When the Vista roof is open there is a net that pops up, I suppose for filtering flying critters out. -The netting is tacky looking but since I am in the car and can't see it, I don't mind. Love it so far - just wish it got better gas mileage. That is why I didn't buy one in 07' - I waited, to no avail, to find a car I like better with better gas mileage.

The best car Ive drivien in a long time

I needed a car with ok gas millage and lots of comfort with lots o goodies. I got the SEL PLUS with the nav and rear DVD. The MPG didnt look great on the sticker but then i drove it my self and averaged 28 on highway with out cruise. The car has lots of luggage room and hidding places. I think me and my wife are going to get into fights about who gets to drive this car.

very good value

For the price range of the standard SE model, vehicle is really worthy of consideration for any buyer. I am really impressed with the handling and overall performance of the vehicle. When I purchase a new vehicle, I usally find a flaw or two which needs to be corrected. This vehicle, everything was deliver in perfect working order, no flaws in workmanship or the paint. Vehicle is also fun to drive.

First 1000 miles have been most impressive.

Before purchasing my 2008 AWD Edge Limited I drove two other luxury cross-overs. The price was right and the performance the first 1000 miles has been most impressive. AWD has been tested on Michigan ice and snow both in residential and highway conditions. The seating is exteemly comfortable. I love the new Sync and have been spending more of my drivetime on the hands free cell phone option. If you are in the market for an SUV or Cross-over you need to make the time to test drive an EDGE.

The right vehicle for me

I bought the Edge because I needed a dependable vehicle for long trips between my home in Savannah and ski house in Vermont. Criteria include seating for no more than 5 people, AWD , room for baggage (including skis), relatively good fuel economy and convenient access to dealers in both locations. Based on use to date, a round trip from Savannah to NE Pennsylvania, Edge exceeded my expectations: Roomy but not elephantine; handled well in high speed traffic; accomodated luggage and gifts for grandchildren with room to spare; averaged 23 mpg at Interstate speeds +10 to 15 mph; and to my surprise, when I got out of the Edge after 4 hours behind the wheel, I wasn't stiff in every single joint, which has not been the case even when driving my other, luxury, cars!
